5 Quick Things

Officially lazy.

That is what I am.

  1. Reason 500,000 that I am strange: I miss the chance of the random blizzard popping up on Halloween.
  2. Song that just won't leave my head: Kellerman's Resort Song from "Dirty Dancing." Honestly, I'm humming it now. And I haven't watched that movie in months.
  3. I have decided to find a new home for the Jumpin' Husker Ferrets. It should make it easier to travel in the next few months when not worrying about bothering my BR friends with the 'please watch them for 2 weeks while I vacay' requests.
  4. Nip/Tuck has once again piqued my interest. For how long? That's anybody's guess.
  5. For Halloween this year, I have decided to be happy. For a change.

5 Quick Things

Yup.

I'm lazy again.

Not a shocking statement to say the least.

Enjoy!
  1. Fun fact: I WILL watch BRAVO's countdown of the 100 Scariest Movie Moments/30 More Scary Movie Moments every time it is on TV. And I mean it. Every.time.it.is.aired.I.will.watch.as.though.it.has.changed.somehow.in.the.past.12.hours. Darn you, BRAVO!
  2. Cross-stitching 2007 has begun again. I finished one project and got 1/3 of the way through another over the weekend. Honestly, I don't know how many projects I have completed thus far this year. (Yeah, once again I suck.)
  3. I wanna be Sweet Dee when I grow up. Or at least for Halloween.
  4. I like the soup options at Quizno's much better than the salads.
  5. This weeks' sign of the apocolypse: Bring It On 4.

Happy Birthday!

Today is my sister's birthday. And as I cannot be in SD to celebrate the day with her properly, I have decided that today's list will be 13 random facts about her.

Ain't I sweet?

  1. In high school, my sister's favorite color was orange.
  2. She liked orange so much that our mother made her a hunter orange prom dress.
  3. The dress was really, really cute. Actually. Smile
  4. Her favorite toy as a child would either be her Little Miss Make-up Doll or her conveyor belt equipped cash register.
  5. She used to name all of our cats (we lived on a farm, we had almost as many as Becky's neighbors do).
  6. She enjoyed making a cape for one cat, so that s/he could become SuperKitty.
  7. While getting ready for school, I used to freak her out by putting a sock on my hand. The sock puppet would then threaten to bite her.
  8. She's a much better driver than me.
  9. She saw Heathers before me. Due to the fact that she stayed home 'sick' from school the day after we rented the movie from Video Mania. So, when I was watching it later that night, she kept on blurting out facts about the movie.
  10. I eventually forgave her for trying to ruin my Heathers experience.
  11. She wants to dance at Splash.
  12. She has created her own form of sign language.
  13. While growing up, she was mistaken for the fourth child of my aunt more than as my sister. My red hair stood out in a wave of blonde.

Resolution Update

Tis that time of the month again. Except more enjoyable. Hopefully.

Just a quick reminder regarding my 2007 Resolutions:

1.    Read at least one book per week. (Of these books, at least 5 should be categorized as 'classics' by either a library or bn.com.)

2.    Exercise 3 times a week for at least 30 minutes.

3.    Send 'real' (aka 'non-electronic') cards to friends and families for special occasions.

4.    Mend fences.

5.    Bring my lunch to work 3 times a week.

Books: Are my friends. I have read over 75 books so far this year. I have also finished more than a handful of 'classics.' Although, I must admit, some of the 'classics' had an ability to put me to sleep. To update this goal for the remaining few weeks of 2007 (YIKES!), I hope to have finished 90 books this year.

Exercise: Need.to.do.better. Now that the weather seems to be mellowing out here in southern Louisiana, I hope to get back into my walking routine. Soon. October 23 Update: To exercise at least for 30 minutes for a total of 30 days until 2008.

Cards: Other than reading, my most successful resolution thus far. October 23 Update: To send out holiday (used-to-be-known-as-Christmas) cards/newsletters before 2008.

Fences: Still working on this one. Update: To continue at a medium pace.

Lunch: As of late, this has become a great success story in my life. Last week, I brought my lunch 4-out-of-5 days. So far this week, I'm batting 100. And I should be 4-for-5 again, as the only day I plan on not packing a lunch is Thursday, when I'll be lunching with Rosemary. Update: To keep it up. Keep it up. Keep that Bulldog spirit up. Keep. It. Up. Woo!

Moment of Zen

Brought to you by Kermit the Frog:

"I guess I was wrong when I said I never promised anyone.
I promised me."

Just one of those introspective rainy days at work.

I am truly looking forward to losing myself in Pushing Daisies and Gossip Girl tonight.

p.s. For all of those who have offered to help me with my resume, I plan to e-mail it to the editors by Friday. Hold me to this. Please.

There's No Place Like Nebraska (or South Dakota)

I am homesick.

This statement should not come as a surprise to anyone who has been paying the least amount of attention to me over the past few months.

I miss having seasons.
I miss the Sioux Empire Mall.
I miss Perkins. (Not the BR road.)
I miss Husker football.
I miss Hobo Days.
I miss 24-hour a day coverage of all things UNL.
I miss my family.
I miss my friends.
I miss enjoying adult beverages with my sister.
I miss snow days.
I miss cussing out Iowa-egian drivers.
I miss meeting Thor for lunch in Sioux Falls.
I miss wearing sweaters. And jackets. And long sleeves.
I miss KELO-Land.
I miss Runza.
I miss having my mom mend my torn clothes. (Usually caused by a moment of klutzitude.)
I miss playing cards.
I miss getting annoyed with my parents' newest board game obsession.
I miss Hy-Vee.
I miss eating around the table in the OVCSA.
I miss fitting in.

As you can tell, this list could go on and on and on...much like a voicemail message from moi. (Those who I call on a regular basis can vouch for that fact.)

But whine as I might about being homesick, I have finally come to the realization that I am the only person keeping me from going home again. Whether that's SD or Nebraska or Minnesota or (gulp) Iowa is all up to fate. And job openings.

So, hopefully over the next few months, I will stop whining about my lack of happiness and will start giving updates on the steps I am taking in order to make the journey home again.

5 Quick Things

  1. If I still worked in Nebraska, I would have gotten off of work early yesterday due to the firing of the Athletic Director at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. (True story...about the AD. Only semi-true story about the shortened day...depends on where I was employed.)
  2. I may be slightly responsible for Becky's recent addiction to raspberry mocha fraps from Starbucks.
  3. Christopher Moore is my newest author crush. He's not that cute, but I Red hearthis writing. (I still lust after Chuck Klosterman and Jasper Fforde, of course.)
  4. Wow. I'm a geek.
  5. My two new favorite television series for the season are: Samantha Who? and Pushing Daisies. Let the countdown til their demise begin.

Productive Weekend

A strange thing has happened to me since I posted my 'dull is Me' entry last Thursday: I've gotten a life.

Shocking. I know.

Of course, I am using a very loose definition of 'life,' but my social calender has been a lot more active in the past few days than it had been. So, YAY!

And, in typical Me fashion, here's a list of the things I have done. (Can't change all of my colors in one day.)
  • Lunched with KD & Brandon on Thursday at Whole Foods. (Yummy!)
  • Happy houred with Jules, Zach & Brett at On the Border after work on Thursday.
  • Introduced Jules to sushi at lunch on Friday. Moe assisted in this effort.
  • Bought 3 new books at the bookstore. (Couldn't help myself.)
  • Hit up Hollydays with Moe & Jules after work. (I love me some Cherry Republic products.)
  • Supped with Moe & Jules at O'Charley's on Friday after Hollydays.
  • Got my hairs cut by Brandon on Saturday. (While Nebraska decided that winning was once again not an option. Ugh!)
  • Cleaned the Jumpin' Husker apartment.
  • Shopped til I almost dropped with Moe at Target & Petco on Sunday. (Picked up the following DVDs: Dexter (Season 1) & It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Seasons 1&2). Woot!)
  • Took Moe out for lupper at Deano's.
  • Enjoyed watching Legally Blonde: The Musical on MTV.

Overall, it has been a good few days. Hopefully this trend will continue.

Well, I really should be getting to work. And stuff.

Most likely the first of a couple posts today

Why more than one post today?

Due to the fact that it's Fall Break and not many people are around campus. Thus, many of my work-related questions will go unanswered til Monday.

Here's this week's feast, for entry #1:

Appetizer
When was the last time you were surprised?

About a week ago when the custodian sneaked into my office while I was concentrating on my computer. He really didn't 'sneak,' but I just wasn't aware he was there until he asked a question and I jumped a little in my chair.

Soup
Fill in the blanks: My eyes are ________, but I wish they were __________.

My eyes are blue, but I wish they were sparkling with happiness.

Salad
If you were a Beanie Baby, what would you look like and what would your name be?

Klutzy Koala.

Main Course
Name two things you consistently do that you consider to be healthy habits.

1. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.

2. Rinse & disinfect the shower & bathtub daily.

Dessert
What brand of toothpaste are you using these days? Do you like it? Why or why not?

Colgate Cool Mint. It's okay, I guess. I basically bought it due to my coupon habit. Hot

  2. Making copies. <Insert your own SNL line here.>
  3. Cutting ribbon. If you want details, ask.
  4. Walking to the west side of campus.
  5. Updating a database.
  6. Cleaning out my e-mail.
  7. Dusting my office.
  8. Calling my mother.
  9. Guilting MoSus into adding the Scrabulous application to her facebook account.
  10. Submitting my updated resume to potential employers.
  11. Decorating the lower part of my office.
  12. Eating a healthy lunch that I brought from home.
  13. Stop procrastinating.

Things that I will most like do today

  • Dink around on the interweb.
  • Play Scrabble.
  • Eat at Cane's for lunch.
  • Talk myself out of applying for new employment.
  • Complain.
  • Meet with my supervisor for our weekly one-on-one.
  • Paperwork...just not as much as I should.

Wishing I was more exciting

I am in a rut.

Here is a typical week day in my life:

5:30 AM - Alarm sounds.
6:00 AM - Roll out of bed. Enter living room via a bathroom trip.
6:15 AM - Contemplate whether to continue watching either The Fairly Oddparents or Mike and Mike in the Morning.
6:16 AM - Talk myself into showering.
6:20 AM - Shower and dress.
6:50 AM - Grab a quick breakfast.
6:55 AM - Continue to watch meaningless television OR clean the Jumpin' Husker Ferret litter box.
7:15 AM - Walk out the door towards the bus stop.
7:30 AM - Arrive on campus.
7:40 AM - Arrive at my office.
7:42 AM - Open my e-mail, Pandora radio, facebook.
7:45 AM - Do my daily blog and webtoon rounds.
7:50 AM - Decide on a personal blog entry. That will bore dozens.
8:00 AM - Begin my work day.
8:30 AM - Wander to the nearest coffee shop (there are 3 within a block of my office).
8:45 AM - Make another move on Scrabble.
8:50 AM - Paperwork & meetings. Sometimes at the same time.
11:55 AM - Lunch.
1:05 PM - Check Pink is the New Blog. Make another move on Scrabble.
1:20 PM - Paperwork & meetings.
3:00 PM - Break time: either walk to the Union and buy a book, walk to the main office and get supplies, or just wander.
3:15 PM - Paperwork & meetings.
4:00 PM - Final check of Scrabble...get paperwork ready for next business day.
4:35 PM - Walk across campus to bus stop.
5:05 PM - Arrive at apartment complex. Sometimes I will stop at Circle K for a treat. Most days, I don't.
5:10 PM - Arrive in apartment. Change out of work clothes. Open ferret cage. Clean litter box (if needed). Pour a glass of water.
5:20 PM - Sit in chair in living room and do one of the following: watch tv, read, cross-stitch, text people, talk on the phone.
6:00 PM - Sup.
6:15 PM - Continue activities similar to those completed at 5:20 PM. Although, at times, I clean the apartment. (Like last night.)
7:00 PM - Decide if I want to watch a new show, a rerun or read.
9:00 PM - Realize I've fallen asleep in the chair. Again.
10:30 PM - Wake up in the chair again. Move from chair to either couch or bed. Depending on my mood.
11:00 PM - Fall asleep.
5:30 AM - Alarm sounds.

Sad.

Soon, I will add walking and exercise to the mix. (Like tomorrow. Yay! Fall weather is finally here!) But, alas, I have become something that I used to and still actively mock: predictable.

Any suggestions on how I can change this pattern?

Honestly. I am no longer creative enough to make that decision on my own.

So.

Randomness

Why?

Why another list of randomness?

Because I have nothing else to share.

Honestly.

I live a quite uneventful life.

It's pretty sad, actually.

Now, I've depressed myself.

Are you happy now?

Here's today's list:
  • I am starting to dislike college football. More specifically teams (that will go unnamed) that seem to have promise, but then completely fall a part anytime we (I mean, they) play a ranked team on national television.
  • The Jumpin' Husker Ferrets are currently clean...and upset with me for that fact. I have the scratch marks to prove it.
  • Floyd spent 4 hours on Saturday snuggling with me. What a good ferret.
  • I really need to read more of Christopher Moore's work.
  • Have a shopping list ready for a trip to Target. Now I need to arrange the trip to Target.
  • I really, really like Pushing Daisies. So I hope the normal curse of Me liking something good on tv has finally been lifted. We shall see.
  • The aunts on Pushing Daisies are named after my cousins. Honestly. In my mind, they are.
  • Exercise needs to be reintroduced to my vocabulary.
  • Copying machines are an invention of the devil.
  • Paper cuts suck.
  • Wal Mart is a happy place on Tuesday mornings. Who knew?
  • I suck at Scrabble.

Well, I should be getting back to productivity now. Have a delightful Tuesday.

It's Friday, y'all!

And I've been on campus since 5:30 AM. Why? Cuz I wanted to try and be on the CBS Early Show this morning. (And I may also be certifiably insane.)

On that note, here's this week's feast:

Appetizer
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how much do you look forward to your birthday?

Ummm...5? I really don't care for celebrations that much. Too much pressure.

Soup
What is one word you don’t like the sound, spelling, or meaning of?

Panties.

Salad
Do you wear sunglasses when you’re outside?  If so, what does your current pair look like?

I don't wear sunglasses. Neither at night nor during the day.

Main Course
If you were to write a book, to whom would you dedicate it?

Depends on the content of the book...actually, I'd be corny and dedicate it to my family and to Nirvana. Without either, I'd have no creativity.

Dessert
Name a beverage that you enjoy.

Iced tea. Both sweetened and unsweetened. Just depends on my mood at the time.

Still here

Just don't have much to share at the moment due to being very anti-social (own choice) and busy at work (does anyone ever really have a choice?).

So, instead of laboring on about the dullness of the past two days in paragraph form, here's a list:

  • Finished reading A Spot of Bother. Not sure how I feel about it. I really liked Haddon's first book. This one was just eh...or maybe it's due to the fact that it's the first non-vampire/alternate universe book I've read in awhile?
  • Switched the Jumpin' Husker Ferrets food. They are still not speaking to me.
  • Been bored with TV. Even the new shows or the new seasons of shows that I've been anticipating. I believe this is due to the fact that I'm old. Not that there's a serious lack of good television. (Fingers crossed that Pushing Daisies does not disappoint.)
  • I am homesick. It's official. And I'm doing my best to get home soon. (December at the latest.)
