Today's Horoscopes

(I will blog about last night's amazing episode of Veronica Mars later, I promise.)

For the time being, enjoy my daily horoscopes...they made me smile. (Which is hard to do when I'm starting to catch a cold, I hope it's just a cold.)
From Tiger Weekly:

Virgo
(Aug. 23 - Sept. 23)
Your friend might have an idea that you think is really stupid. You're going to want to tell him or her not to do it, but it will be much funnier to watch them fail. As a matter of fact, get the entire thing on video. Your other, more intelligent friends won't want to miss this!
From The Advocate:

VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 22): A promising situation involving someone else may not come off exactly as planned, but it isn't likely to throw you off for long. You'll adjust your game plan to suit the need.
If life were only that easy to understand. It would be bliss! Pure, unadulaterated bliss.
Current Mood: Slightly drugged...OTC cold medicine

Warning: Long Day Ahead

Yup.

It's 8:00 AM. The typical beginning of a work day. Except for the fact that I was supposed to come in a little later today due to the fact that I'm teaching a class tonight until 9:00 PM. But, my ever farmer's daughter body never lets me sleep in past the sunrise. So, I awoke at the normal time this morning. Decided I would just putz around the apartment for an hour or two and then come into work.

Yup. As usual, my plans did not come to fruition. After getting ready, I did a few minor chores around the apartment. Then I sat down to watch The Daily Show rerun on Comedy Central and realized that I was preoccupied by the pile of stuff that needs to be completed on my desk at work. No matter how funny Jon Stewart was, I couldn't shake the thought of the many, many copies that need to be made for tonight's class, etc. So, I decided that I would get on the bus. Go to work and tough out the long day on campus, even though I don't have to.

Please remind me of the fact that I chose to work for over 12 hours today when I complain about it tomorrow. (Honestly, I must be insane.)
List of recent accomplishments:
  • Completed reading The Pact by Jodi Picoult. Unique point-of-view on teenage angst and suicide. Very good book, but I still like My Sister's Keeper better. Most likely due to the fact that it's the first book I read by her.
  • Cleaned the bathroom, kitchen and living room.
  • Re-arranged the furniture in my living room for the first time in 4+ years. The Jumpin' Husker Ferrets still haven't forgiven me for messing up their house.
  • Completed 1/2 of my holiday shopping on Saturday with T. The crowds were a lot less scary at opening on Saturday than they looked on Friday...via the local telelvision outlets as I had no desire to leave my apartment when the Huskers were playing/beating Colorado on TV.
  • Purchased a few holiday gifts for myself: bunch of new shirts at Lane Bryant, delightful hand soaps and lip balms at Bath & Body Works, The Office: Season One and My Name Is Earl: Season One DVDs at Best Buy, 40-Year-Old Virgin and Wedding Crashers at Target. I know that looks like a lot of holiday  for oneself, trust me the sales allowed me to afford to indulge for once.
  • Determined how long I will be back in the SD area for the holidays: T and I are leaving on December 20, meeting up with MoSus in Sioux Falls on December 29 and beginning our trek South on December 30. (If you're going to be in the SD area, let me know.)
  • Enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving with KD, Brandon, Billy, Brandon's Mom and others in Baker, LA.

Giving Thanks

I know this is a few days too late, but oh well. 'Tis my blog, so we play by my rules.

Things that I am thankful for, 2006 edition
  • Family - I know, very cliche. But it's the truth. It's been a long, hard year for my family. Yet, with every up and down that we've faced, they've been faced together. Which makes it very difficult for me to remain as far away as I currently am from them.
  • Friends - I am nothing if not predictable. Although I've done my fair share of screwing up friendships this year, it has been a year of realizing who my true friends are and how stupid I can be when I mix Jaeger and Red Bull. (So, very, very stupid.)
  • DVDs - I  my new DVD player that allows me to watch an entire movie or season of a television show without skipping. I have spent many an hour catching up on Wonderfalls, Playmakers, Arrested Development, Fraggle Rock...lots of good television this year due to that fact. It also helped pass the time in June/July with my family, as I introduced them to Wonderfalls and Entourage.
  • Blogs - Easiest way for me to keep in touch with family and friends and to update my growing list of books and DVDs...also keeps me in semi-practice with my creative-type writing again. (Also, provides me with minutes of happiness as I read my friends blogs and the celebrity gossip blogs in between projects at work.)
  • MySpace - How else would I have found out about my 10 year high school reunion?
  • Kohl's - Have I mentioned lately how happy I am that BR now has a Kohl's? (I've gotten new socks and a couple of Dr. Suess books.)
  • Health - I am very happy that overall my health has been good this year. (Although I do have a slight tickle in my throat...Airborne, here I come.)
  • Lunches - Whether it's kidnapping Ms. Jill to go to La Caretta or my weekly jaunts to The Faculty Club with Rosemary, I enjoy getting away from work (kinda) for at least an hour a day to enjoy good food and company.
  • Books - I like to read. As is evident by my list o'books read in 2006.
  • DMC Thread - My one and only creative outlet: cross-stitching. (Almost done with project #4, just have a lot of backstitching to do. A lot of it.)

I believe that I've covered the main topics of things I thank Buddha for daily. I'm sure I will add a few more itmes as the week continues.

Last night at my house...

I watched Veronica Mars. <Insert shocked face here.>

But I did not watch nip/tuck. <Insert confused shocked face here.>

Instead I finished an okay book, Hell Bent for Leather. Which is not about S&M, unfortunately. It is actually about a person's infatuation with the heavy metal scene during the 1980s. Kinda like I was. Shh! Don't tell anyone. <Insert not-so-shocked face here.>

Well, here's my Veronica Mars play-by-play from last night. Hope you enjoy it. <Insert rolling of the eyes here.>

8:02 PM
Look at Logan being all manly and assertive with Veronica. I think Veronica is going to do something stupid. As all women are apt to do when in relationships that scare them.

8:07 PM
How much do you want to bet that Veronica's being followed by Logan?
"The sherriff's an idiot. I've seen smarter sandwiches," Dean O'Dell

8:09 PM
Is it just me or is this season a little anti-Greek?

8:11 PM
Mr. Sheffield cameo.

8:13 PM
Lamb is such a tool. Ummm...your last story on the morning after pill was ummm informative.

8:16 PM
"Worst Easter egg hunt ever," Veronica. (Dick later called it a Keister egg. )

8:22 PM
The return of Wallace!

8:25 PM
I miss Mac and Weevil. I am totally okay with the absence of Piz. He annoys me. (And not just due to the fact that he may spell the end of the LoVe.)

8:27 PM
So many options for who kidnapped Selma Hearst Rose and who is behind the campus head shaving craze. I have my thoughts on both. Which I won't share. As I am most likely wrong. And that's just not cool.

8:36 PM
Veronica is on fire tonight.
"The park is closed. The walrus out front should have told you," Veronica.

(Can I once again voice my unhappiness with the fact that House airs across from Veronica Mars?)

(Second tangent - The American Music Awards just followed a peformance by Tenacious D with a performance by Mary J. Blige. WTF?)

8:43 PM
Logan hired a bodyguard. (The person who was following Veronica.) No good will happen due to this fact.

8:45 PM
Here's a recipe that never equals trouble: Gold-digger + blonde + sorority girl + bi-curious + involved with a married man. That should have been predictable from the get. (How'd I miss that?)

8:47 PM
Good relationships are not based upon lies. Veronica should know that. She really, really should by now.

8:52 PM
"Stop skeeving me out, Anna Nicole," Veronica to the aforementioned gold digger.

8:55 PM
Where is the LoVe? Veronica just dissed Logan in the lunch room. (Please don't let her hook up with Piz. Please don't let her hook up with Piz.)

8:56 PM
Just realized that I won't be able to see next week's show due to the fact that I will be teaching class. Mentally hitting myself for scheduling a class on a Tuesday night. Although, I am happy to report I was correct in my assumption that at least one of the sexual assaults was a false report. Not that I'm happy that people falsely report crimes. That is bad. I'm just happy that I figured out part of the mystery by myself.

Today's Horoscope

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22) Don't waste
 your time on trivial
 projects or activities. Today
represents a brief period when
you can accomplish huge things,
so shoot for the moon and beyond.

Ummm....yeah.
I chose to drink a cup of coffee instead.
I should probably start reading my horoscope at the beginning of each day.

Sweater Weather...Finally

Yup, it finally got to 32-degrees here in BR. Hopefully the fact that it was near freezing for a couple of hours killed off all potential bug bites (aka mosquitos) for the remainder of 2006.

Also, I am wearing my favorite sweater today. The orange one from The Gap. Yup. Hate my preppiness. Hate it.

Other than the weather, not much is going on in my world at the moment. <Insert comment about how much I sound like my mother/father/high school English teacher/Midwestern farmer having coffee at the local diner/old person here.> I find that fact quite comforting, actually. I kinda like being boring. It keeps me out of trouble.

But, of course, I have created a short list of things that I have found enjoyable in the past 24 hours. It's what I do:
  • Watching Peter save a cheerleader and possibly the world.
  • Eating yummy cookies and cranberry made by one of my favorite mothers-to-be.
  • Smiling while KD invited me to crash his in-laws Thanksgiving with him so that I won't be alone on Thursday.
  • Realizing that I will be on the road (and possibly home in SD) in less than a month.
  • Laughing at Ivan as he flipped out of his Jumpin' Husker Ferret hammock while in pursuit of the treats that I placed in their cage.
  • Texting MoSus about Studio 60 and her need for male companionship. She really is in dire need of some. Taking applications to fill this position now.
  • Breaking down the Jumpin' Husker Ferret travel cage so that we will have a little more room in T's vehicle in a month. (I am lame.)
  • Lunching with BigMac and Amtrak at Chelsea's yesterday. All I can say is that I fruit salad! Most possibly in the same way as I love cheese. But not quite.

Well, I should pretend to be productive. Off to work.

"We're going Vermonting!" - Marge Simpson

Okay, we're really not going to Vermont, but I truly enjoyed that quote from last night's The Simpsons.

The weekend went very well, even if there wasn't Husker Football. It went so well, that I think it warrants a couple of lists. (I know, you're shocked.)
Another sign that I fear change:
  1. My utter confusion while trying to find (Ocean Spray) cranberry sauce and (St. Ives) Apricot Scrub at Target yesterday due to the fact that they have changed their labels. (T enjoyed my confusion...a lot.)

5 Things that made me :

  1. Chuck Klosterman's comparison of Heathers (my favorite movie) to Kurt Cobain's (my favorite musician) suicide (one of my least favorite topics) in Killing Yourself to Live. (One of my favorite books read in the month of November.)
  2. Fried catfish platter from Sammy's for lunch on Sunday w/T.
  3. Robot Chicken: Season One DVD for under $15 at Target.
  4. The fact that Ole Miss almost beat LSU in football on Saturday. While I am happy that LSU eventually won, I was quite enjoying the fact that my entire apartment complex was quiet for the duration of the game.
  5. Peppermint mochas from Starbucks. It's beginning to taste a lot like Christmas.

5 Quick Things

I plan on updating more later, but just in case I get busy (cough, cough), here's the most-up-to-date-5-things-you-should-know-about-me:
  1. I was overly excited by the fact that Christian <sigh> Slater was on My Name is Earl last night. Even if he was an uber-hippie.
  2. My thighs feel as though I've walked the lakes at some point in the last month. I have not walked them in a long time, thus I have no idea why they hurt.
  3. I just figured out that the boss guy on Ugly Bettywas Steve on Welcome to the Dollhouse. And I call myself a pop culture buff.
  4. The Huskers have the weekend off, so I have no idea what I will watch on tv tomorrow. I have a feeling I will be completing another Chuck Klosterman book instead.
  5. My fridge is empty. As empty as a congressman's soul. I hope to replenish my fridge soon. You'll have to give me a few years to replenish my faith in congressmen.

Accuradio-rama

Songs that I have heard on Accuradio today that you should check out (because I am planning to):
  • You Won't Bring People Down in My Town - The Sleepy Jackson
  • Key of C - Jim Noir
  • I Should Have Known Better - Yo La Tengo
  • It's Not You It's Me - The Little Willies
  • Homebird - Foy Vance
  • Homoa Beach - Gomez
  • The Gift - Damon McMahon
  • Smile - David Gilmour
  • Miss Halfway - Anya Marina
  • Stuck Between Stations - The Hold Steady
  • Yankee Bayonet - The Decemberists
  • No Man's Land - Sufjan Stevens

Have a nice trip!

So, my almost year-long record of not tripping over my own feet ended this morning.

On my way into the main office, I apparently thought it would be fun to kick of my shoe, overstep myself and fall into a 'on one knee pose.'

I am okay.

Just a bruised ego and slightly scraped knee.

I just hope that this isn't a sign of how my visit home will be next month. Where there will most likely be a lot of ice involved.
Song currently stuck in my head: Pick of Destiny by Tenacious D (Darn you Jack Black...shake angry fist)

Last conversation overheard in main office: How Mario was robbed by Emmett on Dancing with the Stars. (Yes, you heard me correctly. On a campus of higher education, there are people upset about a reality show involving B-list celebrities. You should see how heated the conversations get when American Idol in on.)

Current craving: Hot chocolate with marshmallows

Current thought: How is Thanksgiving only a week away?

Last conversation I was a part of: Discussing the office's silent auction for the United Way with Celena. We are plotting to take over the world. At least by not allowing one person to win an item up for grabs, as this person does not deserve said item. (I like speaking in code.) The conversation ended with Celena giving me a bag of candy. Everything's better with candy.

Raindrops keep falling on my head

At least they're causing the mosquitos to retreat for a few days. Trust me, I know that the army de bug bites will be back with a vengeance for the weekend.
Things that make me happy on a rainy Wednesday:
  • Possible tv show crossovers, such as Hiro on Scrubs
  • Accuradio playing these three songs in a row: I Was Wrong by Social Distortion, March of the Pigs by Nine Inch Nails, The Dope Show by Marilyn Manson
  • Veronica not getting her entire head shaved on last night's Veronica Mars (Sorry if that was a spoiler for anyone out there that actually reads this and watches the wondrous world of Neptune on The CW every week at 9PM EST/ 8PM CST.)
  • Julia finally leaving Sean on nip/tuck last night. Hopefully, she stays away.
  • The actress who played Annie in 2026 on nip/tuck last night. I ed her on The Brady Bunch movies, but the fact that she was having a blast getting even with her parents in the future made me smile. (Even though the rest of the episode pretty much blew.)
  • Staff meetings getting called off due to the weather.
  • Knowledge that I get to buy books at Barnes & Noble today, since I have depleted my pile of reading material at home (finished Snow Flower and the Secret Fan last night!).
  • Snickers.

The Simpsons Movie trailer is out

You can find it here!
Saturday, November 11 (Veteran's Day)

9:34 AM
Watching College Game Day. Taking a break from reading Everything Bad is Good for You. I am liking this book a lot. It argues against almost all of the recent (by recent, I mean the past 50 years) studies that state that the advances in media (video games, tv, movies...) have led to the decline in society as a whole. The book makes the argument that the opposite may be true, it just depends on how one looks at the data presented and places it into a variety of different scenarios beyond the typical methods of analyzing a society (IQ test scores rising along with their difficulty, etc). The book also makes a great argument on how The Simpsons has made a positive contribution to society. (Take that! All of those protestors from the early 1990s who didn't like the t-shirts that said "hell" and "damn!")

9:43 AM
The temperature in my apartment has dropped 7-degrees since I opened all of the windows at 8:00 AM. Did I also mention that I turned off all of my ceiling fans? Does this mean that Fall has finally arrived?

9:54 AM
I am currently obsessed with Josh Turner. He is a country music singer. He is a hottie. I am ashamed to admit this fact. (I still don't like country music, though.)

10:10 AM
What gives VH1 the right to declare something as "Big in '06"?

10:14 AM
The TV Guide Channel has been uber wrong about the programming on Oxygen as of late. At the moment, TV Guide Channel says that Her Alibi is airing, but to my eyes it looks like Honeymoon in Vegas. I am so petty.

10:29 AM
I did not need to see video footage of Anna Nicole's C-section!

10:47 AM
Cujo moment in my apartment! A neighbor's dog just tried to enter my apartment via my screened window. Luckily, all is well. Nothing or no one was hurt. Just a little shook up, especially Ivan.

12:14 PM
I see a detox diet in my near future.

12:18 PM
I wonder if FX chose to air Cruel Intentions before or after Reese filed for divorce?

12:27 PM
Television stations that have caused me to tear up over the past two weeks: CBS, The Food Network, Comedy Central, Lifetime, FX...this list goes on and on. I really need to get a life outside of tv. I also need to consider not watching shows that end with "...of the week."

2:28 PM
The local ABC affiliate better be showing the Nebraska-Texas A&M game.

2:30 PM
Nope. The stupid Ohio State game is on instead. Good news - Auburn is being beaten by Georgia. And Georgia sucks this year. LSU fans will be uber happy.

3:35 PM
Decided to protest the exclusion of the Husker game from today's television schedule by watching Season 2 of Veronica Mars on DVD.

6:08 PM
Woot! Nebraska and South Dakota State both won today!
Sunday, November 12

9:56 AM
I deserve a gold star. I've already taken a shower, completed laundry and cleaned the ferret cage today.

1:58 PM
Home from taking T out for brunch to celebrate her birthday (late). Saw Ed. Drank champagne. Enjoyed bread pudding. Purchased another one of my short-lived television show favorites on DVD, Playmakers.

4:40 PM
Washing bedding. Reading Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. (Good book. Way too much detail about the footbinding process, though.) Baking cookies. Loving the weather.

5:15 PM
Need to figure out what I'm doing (if anything) for Thanksgiving.

5:26 PM
I was not aware that Disney owned the rights to Baby Einstein DVDS. The world makes a lot more sense now.

5:31 PM
I just realized that Nebraska will be playing for the Big XII Championship for the first time since I have been aware of them as a football team.

6:07 PM
Not a big 60 Minutes fan, but I cannot seem to tear myself away from watching the Ed Bradley tribute show tonight.

6:20 PM
Does anyone still watch America's Funniest Home Videos?

7:06 PM
"Not wars, global struggles. You like globes," Army Recruiter on The Simpsons.

7:08 PM
"Don't worry, we'll control the world by the time Bart's 18. We're China, right?" Homer Simpson.

7:15 PM
"Who else is going to keep oil to under $100 a barrel?" Homer Simpson

(In case you missed last night's The Simpsons, it was once again very political.)

Number of times Britney and/or K-Fed were mentioned on last night's edition of E! News:

Britney - 22
K-Fed - 12

Once again, Britney proves to be more popular.
In other news:
  • I'm getting over a little sinus-inflicted illness.
  • Ugly Betty is one of better tv shows on the air right now.
  • Studio 60 has had a few more scripts ordered for this season.
  • Veronica Mars has had a few more scripts ordered for this season.
  • Today is the Best Day Ever on Nickelodeon.

Moment of Henson Zen

Wake up in the morning
Get yourself to work.
Fraggles never fool around.
Fraggles never shirk.
Your duty's always waiting.
And duty must be done.
There's Ping-Pong games that must be played
And songs that must be sung.
- Gobo & the Fraggles

<sigh> If only life could be that easy.

Sometimes you just feel beige

Today is one of those days for me. At one point on my way to work this morning, I was wearing 5 different shades of beige. Not exactly sure why, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

In happier news. Woot to SD for the voting down the abortion ban! Boo for the same-sex marriage ammendment passing, though. But WOOT! overall.

I have to admit, I spent a lot of time last night watching CNN as the numbers came flowing in. It was exciting to see people excited about politics again. The strange thing is that Louisiana was not a big contender in any of the election coverage this time around for a change. That made it a little less exciting for me, overall.

5:39 PM
I didn't know that Courtney Cox starred in Cocoon: The Return. Things that make you go hmmm....
South Dakota had two blurbs in today's USA Today: Opinion about the Abortion Ban and the state blurb about a new winery opening by Sioux Falls (actually closer to my folks than Sioux Falls). Plus, Sioux Falls was featured on an MTV News moment this morning. This is just strange to me. Very, very strange.

5:46 PM
OMG! 50-Cent is one sexy man. The new video featuring 50 and Eminem makes me think very, very naughty thoughts.

5:55 PM
Things that I should really be doing tonight: Laundry, cleaning the bathroom, finishing my cross-stitch project, laundry. What I am doing tonight: Watching tv (Veronica Mars, nip/tuck) and eating popcorn.

5:58 PM
Any bets on the number of times Ryan Seacrest and others will say the names "Britney Spears" and/or "Keven Federline" (or pop culture variations of their names) on tonight's E! News? (Answer to this earth-shattering question at the end of this entry.)

6:02 PM
Is the fact TomKat's upcoming nuptials being branded "The Wedding of the Decade" bothersome to anyone besides me?

6:16 PM
It's beginning to look a lot like Thanksgiving, thanks to The Food Network. Let the turkey cravings begin.

6:20 PM
Today's Sign of the Apocolypse: E! News has just featured Jessica Simpson as a fashion icon.

6:32 PM
"Badger, my ass! It's probably just Milhouse," Homer Simpson.

7:13 PM
I love the fact that Election in on tonight. I love this movie, and not just because it was shot in Omaha and it is Chris Klein's first movie role. I love it for its political undertones and pure evilness.

7:22 PM
The Senate race is already making me break out in hives.

7:37 PM
I remember reading The Pelican Brief in junior high and thinking to myself, "The federal government could never get that crooked." Aww, the days of being naive. I miss those days at times.

8:05 PM
Ooooh, Keith is so going to get some from his former Just Shoot Me co-star. I can feel it in my bones.

8:07 PM
For the past two nights, my dreams have followed a Lifetime movie-esque plot. One night I had given birth to twins. The twist - each child had a different father. The other night, I was a political wife trying to break away from her abusive and quite gay husband during a national election. Not sure what either of those dreams mean, just thought I'd share my confusion with everyone.

8:18 PM
"It's great to talk with someone where Bogart is not a verb," Keith Mars.

8:21 PM
So, Ivan just fell down a flight in his cage. Stood up. Shook himself off. Looked at me with "Whatcha lookin' at?" in his eyes. He is so delightful.

8:23 PM
You know what tv needs more of? Talk shows. I really don't think there are enough of them on the air this year.

8:32 PM
Am I so lazy that I won't get up and walk 12 steps to get a glass of water? Probably.

8:39 PM
I miss Mac. Also, when did Veronica and Parker become buds? Didn't Parker freak out at Veronica 2 episodes ago for 'befriending' Dick? I do appreciate the fact that they have portrayed a realistic date rape moment with Parker freaking out over the smell of a familiar cologne. That is very typical in situations involving a drugged survivor.

8:42 PM
Wallace as a mechanical engineer...equation not computing in my mind.

I'm So Excited

Stuff that happened to me on the way to work this morning
  • Shed a tear as Jessie Spano once again succumbed to her caffeine pill addiction.
  • Overslept.
  • Watched a man get tackled and held down while another man called the police. (Apparently, this man was caught breaking into a local pizza place, was chased over the fence - yes, he jumped over a 6-foot fence, where his chasers caught up to him and ripped off his pants, he then ran into a building where he was caught by the other men and held down until the police arrived.)
  • Caught the early bus to campus.

On a completely different tangent...

7:47 PM
Finally in mi casa. Attended my grad student's voice recital tonight. She did very, very well. (Even though I didn't understand 80% of the songs due to them being sung in a language other than the ONE that I speak fluently. ) Now I'm enjoying an episode of Courage, the Cowardly Dog and listening to the ferrets chomp on their ferret chow.

8:17 PM
Cleaned the ferret cage. Which was a very, very good thing for me to do. Talked to MoSus on the phone. Which proved to be somewhat difficult due to her newly acquired lisp. I will learn to accommodate this change, without too much mockery. Craving baklava thanks to Unwrapped.

8:21 PM
There is something very satisfying about pulling or biting the heads off of fruit snacks (tonight's variety is Hello Kitty). I think that a chocolate fountain would go great in my living room, don't you?

8:23 PM
Austin from the first season of Project Runway was just on Unwrapped.

8:30 PM
I was just informed by the Local on the 8's that the temperature is going to be back in the 80s soon. It's November. That means cooler weather. Right?

8:32 PM
It has been a long week already. Not too many meetings today, but a log of computer (and human) error, along with a lot of rain and wind. Did enjoy lunch with Rosemary, though. (Even though I did bring my lunch, but that will be eaten on Tuesday instead.)

8:34 PM
"Nearly 50% of all of their sales occur between October and March," Mark on Unwrapped. Duh! That's a six-month period, which is nearly 50% of the calendar year I do believe.

8:38 PM
Very excited that tomorrow is election day, which means the end of political advertisements. Although, it's not as bad here in BR as it is in SD.  for my friends in family who are suffering the non-stop "Vote Yes" or "Vote No" barrage of commercials.

8:41 PM
Body is slowly shutting down. Time to recharge.

Laziness Prevails

I spent most of my weekend catching up on sleep. Not that I've been missing it as of late, but apparently my body feels as if it has been denied the experience.

I believe this is what it feels like when doves cry. (I know that it's supposed to be 'sounds,' but that didn't fit in the scenario very well. Plus, I'm sure Prince is okay with me taking some poetic liberty.)
Sunday, November 5 (aka T's Birthday)

4:10 PM
Watching Why I Wore Lipstick to My Masectomy on Lifetime. Rather enjoyable made-for-tv-movie. (Much better than the hatchet job they did on MY Heathers and the lovely Cruel Intentions 3 with Kerr Smith. Yup, I watched CI3. It was bad. Hilariously bad.)
Enjoying the weather from inside of my apartment. As all weather should be enjoyed when one doesn't feel like changing from her jammies.
Making my own personal "Songs That Make Me Go Hmmm...80s Edition." (See later in this passage.)

4:19 PM
Darn Food Network made me cry. I was watching an innocent create your own candy castle competition, loving the fact that the local grandma won and WHAM! there was the black screen stating that the show was 'In Loving Memory' of the winner, "1950-2006." That's just evil. I had to do a double-take on which station I was watching, as that is a very Lifetime thing to do.

4:36 PM
Why do I start hyper-ventilating every time I think of going to work?

4:45 PM
I cannot help but wonder whether or not I have every made a life-altering decision based upon who I really am OR who I would like to be?

4:50 PM
I am rather upset at the fact that my local cable outlet is unable to broadcast the E! Channel at the moment. (Going through gossip withdrawl.)

5:01 PM
I need a personal mantra.

5:13 PM
I wonder how much I would make as a professional dominatrix?

5:26 PM
One of my deepest fears: That I have already peaked in life.

5:43 PM
Sarah Chalke as a patient married to a doctor instead of being a doctor on tv is messing with my head.

6:00 PM
Sweet! Three episodes of The Simpsons in a row.

6:40 PM
"Dad, you're not a robot. You're possessed by the devil," Lisa Simpson

6:55 PM
"I am not a Happy Meal right now," Mayor Quimby.

7:05 PM
"If I can keep down Arby's, I can keep you down," Homer Simpson.

7:29 PM
The Simpsons gets uber-political. I  it!

7:46 PM
"Don't tell me that you voted for He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named,"  gay American Dad character to his Logcabin Republican partner.

Randomness Friday

Thankfully, it's finally Friday!

It has been a long week. Not a bad week. Just a long one. One that I'm happy to say will be over with (at least work-wise) within 4 hours of now.

I have been pretty anti-social this week, for a variety of reasons:
  • I've been really, really tired. I mean so tired that I've been asleep before 9:30 PM pretty much all week.
  • I still haven't gotten over whatever illness grabbed hold of me late last week. I feel better, for the most part. Yet, around 5:30 PM every day, I feel as though I've been hit by a bus. Even though, I'm usually just on a bus at that time.
  • Rampant rumors that Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip will be canceled. It really shouldn't shock me. I have such a good track record with shows I watch getting the axe (Arrested Development, Love Monkey, Tru Calling...the list is long.)
  • Bug bites. I have been attacked by a multitude of bugs, mostly of the flying variety this week, that have left me puffy and itchy. And not in a good way.

On the other hand, I have been rather productive this week too:

  • Sent my sister her birthday gift (only a week late), along with the cross-stitch fun for her and my parents.
  • Cleaned the Jumpin' Husker Ferret cage everyday.
  • Eliminated 3 piles of stuff from my desk. This time by actually completing the tasks needed to eliminate them, not just combining them with other piles. So proud.
  • Made my bed every morning before getting into the shower. That alone deserves a standing ovation.
  • Brought my lunch. Today. I know it's only one day out of five, but that's still a good start.

I have also been accutely aware of the weirdness that is VH-1 this week:

  • The nightly barrage of 100 Greatest Songs of the 80s episodes. I understand that they are premiering an 80s themed movie tomorrow night, but do they really need to recap the entire decade through song...again. Although, it has been great seeing how 'well' some of the stars have aged.
  • Waking up to Welcome to the Jungle on a channel that used to play Celine Dion and Whitney Houston back-to-back-to-back.

Finally, it's been a week where I realized that I am truly getting old. Mainly due to the fact that I actually said "It's too cold outside to be wearing that outfit/costume."

Hopefully next week will bring more excitement.
