<Insert Title Here>

  • Too many of my co-workers have been spending too much of their time in and out of hospitals and doctor's offices lately. That means that I have been spending too much time visiting or sending them cards too.
  • Ferrets should not chew on their paws. Ever.
  • In less than 24 hours I will have a different hair style. Sweet.
  • Late night commitments are over for the academic year. Not relly sure where the year went.
  • Not only have I become addicted to Agatha Christie books, I have become obsessed with James Bond. Well, mainly the new James Bond. Still, I kinda feel like I should be either in my 80s or in the 1920s. Not sure which would be better.
  • Seriously. I need to restock the house with food and other goods as my cupboards are almost dry.
  • I enjoy procrastinating. It is fun.
  • Off to brave the 50% chance of rain for another meeting. Later.

Earth Day Eve

In honor of the one day a year where Americans celebrate the earth, I have decided to put together a list of how I plan on celebrating Earth Day (tomorrow):

  • Saving electricity by not turning on my computer at work. (Although, this may not save my employment status.)
  • Recycle paper. All paper. I wonder if the housekeeping staff will notice full reams of paper in the recycling bin?
  • Only drinking sustainable liquids. Such as beer, wine and other liquids fermented from plant life.
  • Breaking for animals.
  • Wagging my finger at SUVs as they pass me at the bus stop. A double-wag for those SUVs that hold only one person or sorority looking females.
  • Watching movies starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
  • Omitting my morning shower routine. Yay for sponge baths!
  • Guilting someone into buying me lunch.
  • Breathing 10% less than I usually do.

Now for my real goals for Earth Day:

  • Taking the bus to and from work, walking to and from lunch location. (I usually do this, I know. But I will be doing this in honor of the planet.)
  • Recycle all paper waste for the day.
  • Bring a refillable cup to Starbucks for my morning caffeine fix.
  • Continue to go through boxes at home and put things in piles to donate or recycle.
  • Not watch TV except for The Unusuals (there's also an episode on tonight, I think Cupid has met the same fate as the original/much better version of the concept...go Pivs!).

Well, I should get back to editting.

Have a great day!

Highs & Lows

I think it's time for another round of the highs and low's of my life currently.

Highs
  • The weather. It's been gorgeous this week, most of last week...it's been one of those odd years where Baton Rouge has actually experienced Spring.
  • Books. We all know that I love them. But so far this year, I cannot seem to tear myself away from them. To be honest, I need to buy another book shelf for my house to store them all. I'm really considering getting rid of my table to make more room. (Since I rarely use the table for anything other than storing books, anyway.)
  • Students. While I have the tendency to believe that all students are hooligans, I must admit that they have been a point of happiness as of late. Meeting deadlines. Behaving. Providing good feedback. It's been a pleasant week or so of student interaction. (Totally jinxed myself on that one, I know.)
  • Television. I must admit that I have become a fan of some of the late season replacement shows. I really like The Unusuals and Krod Mandoon. Of course, they are quirky shows...which I tend to enjoy...on DVD...after they are quickly taken off the air...maybe these will be different?
Lows
  • Health. I've been feeling really blech lately. Not really sure why. But I would put money on the fact that I've been sleeping, eating and exercising much like someone with their own Discovery Health Channel special lately. Must work on being a healthier member of society.
  • Addiction. "Hi, my name is                    , and I am addicted to Mystery novels. Specifically those written by Agatha Christie."
  • Motivation. While I have been motivated by books, tv shows and students lately, I have had a hard time finding motivation to complete some projects that are still sitting on my desk (currently staring at me, actually). Hopefully, my first wind of the day hits soon. That would be most excellent.
  • Weather. Just in time for the weekend, Baton Rouge should be getting another round of rain/thunderstorms/spring weather. This really will not help my goal of being more active this weekend at all.

Well, I should try to conquer some of the piles on my desk. Have a great weekend!

Taxes Schmaxes

Happy Tax Day!

I am celebrating the 17th year of which I have had to file those lovely documents to the federal government. Luckily this year, I just about broke even.

In other non-required by the law news, I enjoyed a very pleasant Spring Break/Easter weekend. While I was really low-key (so out of character), I did enjoy catching up on apartment cleaning, reading and the top 100 one hit wonders from the 80s.

On campus late a lot lately due to the end of the academic year approaching...which is interesting as usual.

Well, I should get back to filing. And stuff.

Spring Break

Tis Spring Break here at LSU.

The weather is gorgeous. The workload is managable. And (fluff)friends on Facebook has an egg hunt going on. What more can a girl ask for?

I spent most of the weekend cleaning the Jumpin' Husker Apartment and bonding with the Jumpin' Husker Ferret. (Ivan was in an unusually playful mood. Which is a good thing. He's been a bit down in the mouth since the passing of Floyd.)

Other than quality apartment and ferret time, I've been catching up on movies that I've purchased lately (Zach and Miri...) and reading (out of Agatha Christie novels for the moment, most likely will rectify that today or tomorrow). I did head to the Strawberry Festival last Sunday. It was nice, just not the most entertaining festival de strawberries that I've experienced in the 6+ years of my Louisiana living experience. At least I didn't get sunburned this year.

I have also started walking daily again. It's a good thing. I'm just unsure of how I let myself get so out of shape again. Hopefully, this time I stick to a regimen that I can uphold.

Now that I've rambled for awhile, I should probably get back to work/egg hunting.

Weather

The past few weeks have been interesting, only due to the fact that there has been interesting weather.

A week ago, Baton Rouge had one of the most damaging thunderstorms in my history here. Lots of wind, rain and lightning. Basically, a lot of tree limbs that survived Gustav and Ike decided to come a tumbling down.

Then on Thursday night/Friday morning of last week, another interesting storm. With another storm on Friday night.

The weekend was gorgeous.

This week seems to be following the same pattern, only with the 'major' storm hitting BR during the lunch hour today. Was amusing watching the local news coverage of the storm while eating lunch, but I'm okay with this weather going back to 'normal' again soon. Didn't I move away from the midwest to avoid tornadoes?
Yup. I'm totally turning into an old person. As I just spent a good 10 minutes blogging about the weather. Honestly, that's about the only exciting thing to report on right now. Everything else in my life seems to be motoring at the same speed as usual. Work is good. Personal life is good. Ferret is good. So, I hope that I'm not jinxing myself by actually putting my 'good'ness out into the cosmos and the interwebs.
Well, I should get back to my regularly scheduled programming. Yay for monthly reports! Or something like that.
