Another moment of zen brought to you by Veronica

(In honor of The CW airing Welcome Wagon, 1st episode of season 3, last night)

Veronica: Dad, come here!

Keith: You beckoned?

Veronica: Yeah. You'll never believe it - a maid from our hotel in New York found the Flash card with all our vacation photos on it. Look.

Keith: Hot dog!

Veronica: "Hot dog"?

Keith: It's an expression of excitement and enthusiasm. Joe and Frank Hardy and I used to say "Hotdog" all the time while we were waiting for the car hop to bring us our malteds at the drive-in.

Veronica: "Drive-in"?

Keith: I hate you.

Veronica: You love me.

Keith: Yeah, but it's all instinct.

(And one more, just because I'm still pulling for LoVe)

Veronica: [to Logan after sex] Woof! You should seriously consider going pro in that.

5 Quick Things

  1. My friend Monelle got married on Saturday. It was a lovely wedding, where I enjoyed many an adult beverage...and the weather here in Baton Rouge.
  2. T and I are officially "Ladies who Lunch." Yesterday's lunch was provided by Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro.
  3. I am able to go into Target and only buy things that are either on my shopping list or on sale. Who knew?
  4. Cross-stitch project #3 for 2007 is almost complete. Just have the fun of back-stitching left.
  5. The Weather Channel is officially anti-Me. As it will not begin raining until I leave my office to walk across campus and wait for the bus. I think that may be Murphy's Law or something.

Yet another list of books

In order to complete my goal of alphabetical reading for the year, that is at least one book whose title starts with each letter of the alphabet and at least one book whose author's name (first or last) begins with each letter of the alphabet, I will need to choose from the following books, or something similar:

Titles - R, U, X
Authors - Q, V, X, Y
Again, these are just a few titles and authors that I brainstormed this morning...with the help of google, wickipedia and bn.com. I am open to suggestions. If you have any, let me know.

Almost a 3-day weekend

Today's feast for y'all.

Appetizer
Name a sound you like to hear.

The UNL fight song. Because it means either (a) I'm getting a phone call or (b) the Huskers just scored a touchdown or did something well in a football game.

Soup
What is your favorite kind of cheese?

This is a hard decision, as I  cheese. But I would have to say blue/bleu cheese. It's just yummy on almost everything to me.

Salad
Do you sleep late on Saturday mornings? Why or why not?

Define 'late.' The past few weeks I've slept in until at least 9:00 AM. But I know that isn't 'late' to many people. So, I guess I don't sleep in on Saturdays. Mainly because I'm a morning person, and also due to the fact that I'm getting to the age where my body gets me up whether I want to or not.

Main Course
When was the last time you forgot something?  What was it, and how long did it take to remember it?

Actually, I forgot to take out the garbage this morning. It took me about 40 minutes to realize it, as I was walking across campus and saw the custodial workers taking bags of trash to the dumpsters. Hopefully, I will remember to take it out tonight. (fingers crossed)

Dessert
Fill in the blank:  I notice ____________ when _____________.

I notice the humidity when it's gone. Mainly, I notice the lack of humidity when I'm home in South Dakota.

5 Quick Things

  1. Veronica truly does bring out the evil in every man she meets. Her cheerleading escapades with Piz end up as an e-mail attachment that was forwarded more than the Richard Gere-gerbil story. This forward causes Logan to beat the crap out of Piz (yet another evil Veronica turn) and a mobster to prove that he is manly enough to not be Veronica's woman. Wallace gets electrocuted while assisting with a Veronica vendetta against a secret society. Keith gets indicted for a crime that he did in the name of fatherly love, thus costing him the sherriff election. Wow. She's one busy frosh.
  2. Cake and iced tea help keep the tears from a-flowin. Yesterday's going away party for my GA went swimmingly. Although, I am still in denial that she's leaving. Who in their right mind would purposively move to West Virginia?
  3. Late night phone calls with friends far, far away make a girl both homesick and happy. Thanks for letting me vent.
  4. Thank goodness that it's almost a three-day holiday weekend. I really need that. Really, I do. Really.
  5. Me:On a Diet needs to commence again. Soon.

My Favorites Meme

It has been awhile since I've memed. So here you go:

My Favorite...

Time of day: Would have to be the later afternoon/early evening part of the day (4:30 - 8:00 PM). And not just because it means that I made it through another day of work. Although that is a bonus. It is due to the fact that it's the time of the day where I can play with the Jumpin' Husker Ferrets, make supper, read, cross-stitch, walk, watch the news (E! News that is) and just relax. It is the part of the day that is simply Me time. It's great.

Day of the week: Tuesday. It is the one day of the week that is pre-planned for me: work, home time, Veronica Mars, text MoSus. So, sadly, today could be my last favorite Tuesday.

Season of the year: Spring. I love everything about spring, except for the increased amounts of pollen that cause me to spend increased amounts of money on facial tissue. Yup. Allergies suck. But pretty flowers and baby animals make up for that pain. For the most part.

Holiday: While I do adore the 25 Days of Christmas on ABC Family, my favorite holiday is actually the 4th of July. While I'm not a big fan of fireworks, I do love parades and picnics/bar-b-ques.

Beaches: The Bette Midler version. It never fails to make me cry. I don't really have a favorite physical beach, although I do adore Clearwater Beach in Florida.

Song: Dyer Maker by Led Zeppelin is actually my most favorite song ever, followed closely by Sliver by Nirvana.

Talk show: Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Conan just makes me laugh. Out loud. A lot.

Movie: Heathers, followed closely by Dogma.

Soap: If I interpret this as a television show, then it would have to be Days of Our Lives. Just cuz it's ridiculous. If I intrepret this as a cleansing agent, then it would have to be Oil of Olay Sensitive Skin bar soap and Bath & Body Works anti-bacterial hand-soap, Warm Vanilla Sugar scented.

Beverage: Iced tea. Water. Boulevard. Take your pick. I like them all.

Fruit: Strawberries. Actually, berries of any flavor. For the most part.

Snack: Popcorn. Either from the movie theater or from my Stir Crazy at home. Mmmm...popcorn.

Food: Steak. Lefse. Pasta. Again, I'm not too picky.

Restaurant: Loaded question. But, overall, I would spend my entire paycheck at Perrains, if I could. But I won't. Because I have to pay for rent at least.

A moment of zen

[In an evening walk, Mac confides to Veronica her dismay about her relationship with Max.]
Mac: Love makes me lazy. It's a dangerous drug. Kills more brain cells than crystal meth. How's your cell count these days?
Veronica: Mmmm, I can still do long division, but I can't quite remember all the continents.
Mac: So, Pizneyland is the happiest place on Earth?
Veronica: Happy enough. There's no rollercoaster, but I think I can do without the adrenaline and nausea.

I must have this. Really, I must.

Me:On a Social Roll & Other Ramblings

I have seen 3 movies in the past three weeks. With other people. Two of the movies were on opening day(Spiderman 3, 28 Weeks Later). The third was on opening weekend (Shrek the Third). I am unsure when I became social again. But, I am truly enjoying the recent brush with other people.

Beyond getting to know the new RAVE theatre rather well, I have also been out and about with BigMac, Amtrak, KD, Brandon, T, Jules and Moe for meals, drinks and chocolate melting over the past few weeks. Yet, another sign of the apocoloypse? Or another sign that the weather has been nice and people have become restless? Or possibly just the fact that I've been asked or have asked others to hang? Whatever the reason, I'm happy to report that I finally have a great excuse for not finishing Possible Side Effects or any other book for over a week: I've been too busy to read. And that, as Martha would say, is a good thing.

Other than being a social butterfly, I have been working on finishing Cross-Stitch Project #3 for 2007. Yup, I finished the 2nd project a week ago. It's actually sitting next to me at my desk, ready to be sent to my mother for a late Mother's Day Gift. I think that I'll wait to send it to SD with project #3 and possibly 2006 project #4. Save some $, since the price of stamps has increased again. Or just due to the fact that I'm forgetful. I'll let you be the judge.

Other random tidbits that I feel the urge to share:
  • I redid my bathroom decor over the weekend. It now looks like a grown-up lives in my apartment. Next room to redo: living.
  • I purchased 6 books at B&N this morning. Why? Because they were on sale. Buy 2, get 1 free. Which books did I acquire? Portrait of a Lady by Henry James. O Pioneers! by Willa Cather. Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. Mansfield Park by Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Middlemarch by George Eliot. Yup. This should really help my goal of reading more 'classics' during 2007.
  • I am still a bit perturbed with The CW about playing yo-yo with my heart in regards to Veronica Mars. I know that they're probably not bringing it back for a 4th season, so why don't they just make it offical? That way the healing can begin. (Don't forget that the 2-hour season (series?) finale is on tomorrow night beginning at 7PM Central Time.)
  • Tomorrow is my Grad Assistant's last day at LSU. We will be documenting the day with cake and iced tea. It shall be a fun, yet sad, event. At least for me.
  • I have considered moving back to SD and working full-time at Barnes & Noble until I figure out what I want to be when I grow up. And I'm really kinda serious about this thought. That's the scary part.
  • I have no idea what I'm wearing to Moe's wedding on Saturday.

TGIF

Today's feast brought to you by the letter N (for nice weather):

Appetizer
List 3 emotions you experienced this week.

  1. Apprehension
  2. Jealousy
  3. Anger

Soup
Name a car you’d love to have.

PT Cruiser. I know it's sorta cliche, but they are rather decent vehicles. A good friend of mine owns one and has let me drive it, and it was sweet. I'd like a maroon colored one with a sunroof, please.

Salad
Describe your typical morning routine.

Alarm goes off. Switch alarm off. Either crawl to the living room to watch the news or stay in bed to listen to the radio for about 20 minutes. Spend 10 minutes convincing myself that cleanliness is indeed close to godliness. Shower - including washing my hair. Comb/brush the madness that is my mane. Apply lotion and other like products. Conduct an internal argument with myself regarding my wardrobe decision for the day. Dress myself. Grab a glass of water from the fridge. Break the fast with either a piece of toast with peanut butter or a bowl of Cheerios. When I'm actually being thoughtful about my diet, pack my lunch and snacks (after making them if need be). Check the food and water levels for the Jumpin' Husker Ferrets. Give them treats. Usually have to clean out the cage a bit to make it sanitary. Grab my bag of books, head out the door after stuffing my pockets with the essentials: ID card (to gain entry to my office building), keys, cell phone, chapstick. Lock the door. Walk to the bus stop. Begin making mental lists of things that I need to do either for work or for play for the day. Enter the bus. Say "Good morning!" to the bus driver. Pick a seat. Begin making lists again in my head and/or on paper. Get to campus. Walk to my office. Log on to my computer. Begin typing inane information about myself on my blog. Yup. That's about right.

Main Course
Have you ever emailed someone famous?  If so, who, and what did you say to them?  Did they reply?

Sadly, no. No, I haven't.

Dessert
Do you listen to podcasts?  If so, which ones?

Actually, again I must answer with a no. Basically due to the fact that podcasts intimidate me. There. I said it. Let the mockery begin.

13 Alternatives to watching the CW

(Yup. It looks like they're pulling the plug on Veronica Mars. Here comes my boycott.)

  1. Read a book. Way more interesting than trying to figure out who the next Pussycat Doll will be.
  2. Go for a walk. Dude, that could so be a new reality show. I mean, if farmers can find wives and the nation can play BINGO, why can't we watch someone walking for an hour everyday. It's like exercising, but without the work.
  3. Watch Veronica Mars on DVD. It'll be like a 4th season, without the new storylines.
  4. Play NTN. BWs, here I come.
  5. Ladies Nite at Champps. Mmmm...diva-tinis.
  6. Cross-stitch. Anyone want a LoVe beer cozy?
  7. Learn all the words to American Pie. Maybe I could have a karaoke career afterall...first, learn the words. Second, learn to sing.
  8. Adopt a child. Most likely from a third-world country...like North Dakota.
  9. Start an acting troop. The only requirement to be a part of the group: Must know all of the dialogue from Veronica Mars. Why? Because that is the only platform from which we will perform. Word.
  10. Write a book. It is one of those things I want to accomplish before I die. Thank you, CW, for allowing me to have more time to develop myself and less time to watch television.
  11. Get a tattoo. Yet another thing-I-have-been-putting-off due to incessant television watching. Or something like that.
  12. Train the Jumpin' Husker Ferrets to dance. I sense disaster. Still more amusing than Supernatural.
  13. Bitch. I'm really good at this one. See above for examples.

(Also, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip was not picked up for a second season. Yup. I'm cursed.)

5 Quick Things

  1. How I Met Your Mother is a brilliant show (which has been picked up for a 3rd season). Although, I am still in shock by the season finale on Monday night.
  2. I am not a fan of either King of Queens or The Gilmore Girls, yet I watched both series/season finales this week. I guess I'm just a glutton for tear-filled finales?
  3. Piz is starting to grow on me. Although, I'd still like the LoVe to return. What can I say? I'm a romantic at heart.

  3. Stress makes one regress. Eventually I will diet again. I promise.
  4. There's a new episode of Veronica Mars on tomorrow night.

Are you ready for a feast?

This week's feast:

Appetizer
Tell about a time when you had to be brave.

My transition from high school to college was made a little more difficult due to the fact that my grandfather passed away the day before I moved into my residence hall (dorm) room. His funeral was the day before classes began, two days before my 19th birthday. Basically, I had to learn the ins and outs of SDSU quickly in order to make sure I was registered for everything, books purchased and a ride home secured within the first 48 hours of being a 'college' student. Somehow, I managed to accomplish everything without losing my sanity or my goal of starting college. Which is something my grandfather truly wanted me to do.

Soup
Which upcoming movie are you excited about seeing?

Shrek the Third. I've read some not-so-great reviews of it, but I'll still be in line to see it. Because basically I will go to any movie attached to Mike Meyers. I am his slave.

Salad
Name an item you try to always have on hand.

Kleenex or chapstick. I apparently have allergies that cause a lot of sneezing and dry lips.

Main Course
Imagine the most relaxing room you can think of.  Now describe it!

White walls. Wood fire place. Large picture windows looking onto a beach. Hardwood floors. Few pictures on the walls. Candles. Flat-screen tv above fire place. 2 leather overstuffed reclining chairs. Overstuffed leather couch. Throw rugs. End tables by each corner of a chair/couch. Book shelves. Hidden sound system playing a personal playlist entitled "Me:On a Break." Ceiling fan.

Dessert
On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being highest), how spiritual or religious are you?

 Lately, I'd say 5. Typically, 3.

Just plain randomness

Cuz I just feel like being lazy...

Random Veronica Mars quotes from May 1's episode:

Piz: [throws $20 on the pool table in front of a hot girl who just won] I got 20 bucks that says you can whip my ass and make me like it.

Logan: Hey, by the way, I am throwing I birthday party for Parker this weekend. I’ve been studying up too. I watched My Super Sweet Sixteen. That reminds me, do you know where I can get about a dozen eunuchs?

Veronica: Not off hand, but I could make some calls.

5 Things you need to know

  1. There is yet another new episode of Veronica Mars on tonight (9EST/8CST) on the CW. You really should watch this show. It's really good...and promotes good bone health. Really. It might?
  2. Someone was searching for "Sioux Falls dominatrix" and was referred to my blog. Not really sure how I feel about that.
  3. My mother sent me another care package yesterday full of books, cross-stitching material (Aida cloth, for those in the know) and a cross-stitching magazine. I think she's subtly hinting at which project she wants me to complete next. She's not really that subtle. No on in the Jumpin' Husker family is. Tis true.
  4. The cost of a first-class postage stamp increases to 41-cents on Monday, May 14, 2007. So be prepared to buy new stamps and/or a bunch of 1-cent or 2-cent ones. You've been warned.
  5. I actually confronted one of my neighbors on Sunday for dumping used keg/ice water off of his balconey onto mine. It didn't do any damage. It was just annoying. Mainly due to the fact that he had been doing it off and on for about a day. I just had enough. I really don't enjoy confrontation. So, I may not do that again anytime soon. Unless, of course, you don't watch Veronica Mars tonight. You have been warned.
