Tis Friday

This week's feast:

Appetizer
How many pieces of jewelry do you wear most days?

Honestly, none. Unless you were to count glasses.

Soup
What is your favorite instrumental song?

This is a hard question, mainly due to the fact that I don't really listen to instrumental music that much. Well, at least since I was in Music Appreciation. But to be completely cliche, I really like "Peter & the Wolf." It just reminds me of Mrs. Clark explaining which instrument represented which character.

Who has a last name that you like?

I really like my last name, but if I had to choose another person's last name without having to marry them, unless they were willing, it would be:

Justin Timberlake *swoon*

Main Course
Name a popular movie you’ve never seen.

Lord of the Rings. Start the hate messages after the beep. *beep*

Dessert
Fill in the blank: Nothing makes me ___________ like ____________.

Nothing makes me hyper like a venti chocolate raspberry frap from Starbucks. (May have to invest in one today. Plus, it's double-punch Friday.)

Current Mood: Guilty...broke down and got hot cakes & sausage for breakfast today. But I did walk this morning.

Reasons I love basic cable during the summer months

  1. Eureka
  2. Rescue Me
  3. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
  4. Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern
  5. Mad Men
  6. The Closer
  7. Kyle XY
  8. Lil' Bush
  9. Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List
  10. Damages
  11. The Dan Ho Show
  12. Chelsea Lately
  13. The Soup (and The Soup TV specials)
I adore the fact that basic cable has around-the-clock new programming...this way I don't have to watch much reality tv on the basic channels. Sweet.

In 4 weeks,

I'll be on the second plane on my three plane journey home.

Although, I am super-psyched (head is bobbing as I type those words) about being in SD for almost 2 weeks, the realization has hit me that a lot will be happening between now and then in the world of Me (and we all know that the world should and does revolve around me). Such as:
  • The General will be marrying his lady love on July 7, 2007, in Branson, MO. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the festivities.  But, I'm sure they'll be wonderful.
  • Amtrak will be leaving LSU for UAB. I'm happy for him, but still, it's another friend moving on...sigh.
  • Fourth of July festivities will be held and attended. I love BBQs, not so fond of fireworks, though.
  • New glasses will be ordered and worn. Yeah. It's time.
In brighter news of Me:
  • I walked this morning for 45 minutes.
  • Today is my cousin Traci's birthday! (She's also the cousin that will be getting married in July, hence my trip home.)
  • I totally paused and forgot to mention that last week held the honor of celebrating both my cousin/godson Eric's 10th birthday & my cousin Saige's 5th birthday.
  • This website makes me happy that Scrubs was picked up for another season. Although it will be it's last.
  • I am totally in love with the WeeWorld on AIM. It's sad, but true.
  • Even sadder? I have been sending a lot of free gifts via facebook.com. Yup. I need a life.
Well, I should try to be productive. For awhile anyway.

Are you surprised?

One word. Boring. Sums you up to a tee. You're responsible, trustworthy, serious and down to earth. Boring. Boring. Boring.

You play by the rules. You follow tradition. You encourage structure.

You insist that EVERYBODY do EVERYTHING by the book. Seriously, is there even an ounce of imagination in that little brain of yours? I mean, what's the point of imagination, right? It has no practical value...

As far as you're concerned, abstract theories can go screw themselves. You just want the facts, all the facts and nothing but the facts.

Oh. And you're a perfectionist. About everything. You know that the previous sentence was gramattically incorrect and that "gramattically" was spelt wrong. Your financial records are correct to 25 decimal places and your bedroom is in pristine condition. In fact, you even don't sleep on your bed anymore for fear that you might crease the sheets.

Thankfully, you don't have anyone else to share the bed with, because you're uncomfortable expressing affection and emotion to others. Too bad.

  • Nebraska. Refer to previous bullet for more information.
  • lists. I'm making them, but totally not checking them twice.

A History Lesson: June 22, 2005

Wikipedia states that the following events occurred on June 22, 2005:

  • German car manufacturer BMW acquires the Formula 1 team Sauber Petronas. In the next season the new team will be probably known as BMW Sauber. BBC Sport
  • The entire network of the Swiss Federal Railways shuts down due to a power failure in its overhead wire system. The power failure is also affecting international transit through Switzerland as such intercity trains use the same system. Initial reports indicate that the power failure started with a voltage drop in Ticino (in the St. Gotthard region) that then spread to the entire system. The initial failure happened at about 1700 local time, with some power supplies restored about 2015, but the last trains did not reach their destinations until 0300. (SwissInfo) (BBC)
  • In Chad, a referendum for allowing presidents, particularly Idriss Déby, run for office for three straight terms, passes. (Reuters SA)
  • According to former U.S. ambassador to South Korea Donald Gregg and former journalist Don Oberdorfer, George W. Bush in 2002 turned down an offer from North Korean leader Kim Jong-il to discuss the issue of nuclear weapons. (Reuters)
  • An Italian military tribunal in La Spezia has sentenced 10 German former Nazi officers in absentia to life imprisonment for their role in a World War II massacre of 560 civilians in the Tuscan village of Sant'Anna di Stazzema. (BBC News)
  • In Colombia, congress approves a draft bill that offers sentences of only eight years to those members of paramilitary militias who give up their weapons. It demands that they confess, return the stolen property and disarm. Critics of president Álvaro Uribe say that the law is too lenient (IHT) (Colombia Journal) (Reuters AlertNet)
  • International Whaling Commission meeting in Ulsan, South Korea, does not support Japan's suggestion to resume coastal whaling or increase its own scientific one. Commission also voted down a request that Japan could catch 150 minke whales a year (Japan Today) (Channel News Asia) (Reuters AlertNet)
  • In South Africa, President Thabo Mbeki names energy and minerals minister Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka as his deputy president. She is the first woman to hold the position. (SABC) (Reuters SA) (News24) (BBC profile)
  • The Peruvian government condemns supreme court decision to drop the case of former president Alberto Fujimori for forging signatures for 2000 elections (Reuters AlertNet)
  • The Peruvian government states that it will allow limited growing of coca plant for traditional uses (MercoPress (BBC)
  • In Brazil, heated arguments in the congress result in fighting and the session is suspended. Fighting begun when former chief of staff José Dirceu, who had rejoined the congress, tried to defend the government against the bribery allegations (Bloomberg)
  • In Ethiopia, main opposition group Coalition for Unity and Democracy states that government investigators have dropped all their complaints about possible election fraud. Government still has not released any results (AllAfrica) (Reuters AlertNet) (BBC)
  • United Nations Security Council votes to send 750 more peacekeepers to Haiti for elections and extend the UN mandate to February 15, 2006 (UN News Centre) (ReliefWeb)
  • In Poland, opposition demands resignation of prime minister Marek Belka because of allegations that declassified files show he had ties to communist-era security services. Belka refuses to do so, stating that he signed a contract to be allowed to go to study trip to USA (Radio Polonia) (Warsaw business Journal) (Reuters)
  • But, most importantly, I began writing in this blog on June 22, 2005. Happy 2 year anniversary! And thank you to all 5 of you that regularly read this site. It's not always exciting, but it's something.

    Have a great weekend!

Name a funny habit you have.

Wow. There are a lot of habits that I possess that people consider 'funny.' Kinda on a diet, while still wanting sweets

    First, the good news:
    • I have walked for at least 30 minutes 3-out-of-the-last-4 days.
    • I have eaten at least 5 servings of vegetables and/or fruits for the past 4 days.
    • I have brought my lunch all week long.
    • I have de-junked my fridge of all un-Me:On a Diet fare.
    Now, the notsogood news:
    • I have drank almost 1/2 my body weight in Starbucks coffee this week. (And I haven't always chosen the healthy option.)
    • Peanut butter M&Ms are the devil.
    • I will be breaking my no eating out for lunch streak today, by going to NY Bagel with Becky & John. (It's a going away thing, kinda.)
    • I am craving Cane's. Scrumptiously evil Cane's.
    • I kinda don't want to walk after work today.
    • I will be tempted with going away cake tomorrow.
Well, at least I'm consistent with my yo-yoing.

    My Weekend was...

...full of walking. I walked for at least 30 minutes on Saturday & Sunday morning, plus the fun of walking through the produce market and Albertson's with T. Me:On a Diet, part 3 starts now.

...full of savings. During the abovementioned trips to the produce market and Albertson's, I saved a lot of money due to buying fresh & local (because it's what Sara Snow tells me to do, and I must not anger anyone from Discovery Health Channel) and due to coupons & 10-for-$10 sales. Basically, I have my lunch planned until July. ROCK!

...full of random text messages and phone calls. Example: Mom calling me yesterday afternoon with an urgent question, at which time she put my sister on the speaker phone. The question: When playing UpWords, do you draw the letters from the bag or from the table? Yeah. Random.

...full of napping. Yup. I must have been tired.

...full of reading. I finished Notting Hell. Good summer reading book. Basically think about moving the cast of a popular ABC Dramedy that airs on Sunday nights (for the past 3 years) to Notting Hill. Yup. That's the plot.

...full of wanting this to happen:
I am so very, very pale. Almost see-through. But, alas, I did not get any color over the weekend. That may be a goal for today. I guess.

    3. Insomnia is not fun.
    4. I will be home in SD in less than 6 weeks. I will be 30-years-old in less than 12 weeks.
    5. Be careful what you wish for. It just may come true.

    Blog game: Interview Edition

Yup. I'm just a sucker for a good old game of exposing more information than is necessary to my friends and fellow web lurkers out there.

    Here's how it works:

I answer the questions from my 'interview' here. Then if you want to play you do this:

    1. Be one of the first five people to reply with INTERVIEW ME.
    2. I will respond by asking you five questions (not the same as you see here).
    3. You will update your blog/site with the answers to the questions.
    4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
    5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

Here are the questions Amy asked me, followed by my answers:

    1. Monkeys or robots-- which are better?

In an ideal world, the answer would be monkey-operated robots, but alas, the world is far from ideal. By my standards, at least.

So, I guess I will have to go with 'monkeys.' Simply due to the fact that I've always wanted a pet monkey to call my own. I would train him to answer the door when the Domino's man comes a knocking, to sort clothes by color for washing and to dance. Because, honestly, monkeys are here to amuse me. And a dancing monkey is worth at least a month's worth of giggles.

    2. Why ferrets?

The answer to this question is rather complex. Simply put, I was suckered into adopting a friend's ferrets when he left UNL in 2001 (Layla & Buddha). And ever since then I've been a ferret lover. Ferrets are quite enjoyable as an apartment pet: they sleep a lot, they are (mostly) litterbox trained and they don't bark.

Although, I have two different ferrets (Ivan & Floyd) now than I did when I first moved to Baton Rouge in 2002, I'm still a sucker for the little weasels. Yet, I have discussed the fact that after these two have moved on, I will most likely become a cat or dog person. I mean, honestly, I need to grow up eventually.

    3. What's your favorite scent?

Vanilla. Honestly, can I get more white bread?

    4. What's more attractive, good hair or pretty eyes?

I am such a sucker for eyes. No particular color, I'm not that shallow (yet). But I totally enjoy a person whose eyes tell a story of interest or intelligence or interest...

Yeah. I may have disclosed too much with that answer.

    5. What does the name of your favorite flower rhyme with?

    Crazy.

Things To Do While @ Home (in July & August)

    1. Attend my cousin's wedding. (Main reason I'm heading north.)
    2. Lunch with Kara.
    3. Hang out with MoSus.
    4. Visit Tonda, et al. in Lincoln.
    5. Enjoy a Blizzard Treat at the local DQ.
    6. Take pictures of penguins at the Sioux Empire Zoo.
    7. Relax.
    8. Celebrate my last month of being in my 20s.
    9. Close down Nutty's. At least once.
    10. See my newest family members (both Bill and Vivian).
    11. Walk. Walk a lot.
    12. Laugh. Laugh a lot. Especially at The Simpsons Movie. At least, I hope it's humorous.
    13. Search for meaning in a Pauly Shore movie.

Alas, I knew this day was coming. I just didn't think that the official date would be so ironic. (More about ironic timing tomorrow.)

So, on a semi-sad/semi-happy-that-the-wait-is-over note, here's one final moment of Veronica zen:

I woke up humming show tunes

Yup. Basically the highlight of my weekend was watching the 2007 Tony Awards on CBS. Although, I do have to admit, I mainly watched to see the cute actors from Spring Awakening and to see my Zach (Braff) introduce the musical number from Spring Awakening. Also, I was hoping for more coverage of either Legally Blonde: The Musical  or High Fidelity: The Musical. Yeah. I guess that any decent movie can be made into a musical now. And vice versa? We shall see with the upcoming movie version of the Broadway version of the movie Hairspray.

    In other Me:The Weekend news:

    • Enjoyed an hour or more of happy with co-workers on Friday (Mo, Jules, Miki).
    • I  white queso!
    • And ice cream.
    • Conversed with the Shanester via the telephone on Saturday. (Good luck with your interview.)
    • Plotted a shower gift for my cousin (reason that I'll be home at the end of July) with my sister.
    • Cleaned the Jumpin' Husker Ferret apartment. (Points for me.)
    • Watched a lot of tv. I mean absurd amounts of it.
    • I need help with my tv addiction.

All in all, it was a typical weekend. I did find myself not wanting to get out of bed this morning. Not because I was tired. Actually, I was quite refreshed. I was just that cozy in my bed, that I didn't want to get up. Which is a good-bad-good thing, don't you think?
