7月31日 - Road tripping to Lincoln from Fremont is a lot more fun with a friend. Thanks, Shane!

- Convincing someone to stay and watch another episode of Flight of the Conchords is much easier than I had expected.
- My body still does not like Taco John's. Even though I would really like for it to.
- Current level of motivation to begin my journey north: 20 out of 100. I'm really enjoying just bumming around.
5 New Addictions- The aforementioned Flight of the Conchords. Just frikkin' hilarious!
- Dexter. I am sooooo behind the curve on things at times.
- Raspberry flavored Lipton White Tea.
- Digital cable...I am really liking this On Demand stuff. This could potentially be a HUGE problem with my future budgetary needs.

Today's Goal: To breathe. 7月23日
- I finally finished a book during the month of July. Of course, it was Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows. I am nothing but a lemming, but it was quite a delightful book which I will not spoil for anyone. Because that is just pure evil.
- Next item of excitement on the long list of "How I became a geek"? Why the opening of The Simpsons movie this week, of course. Which I will most likely see with my sister and others in SD on Friday. Woot!
- I am about 80% done with Cross-Stitch Project # 4 for 2007. The goal is to get all of the cross-stitching done before flying home, then completing the back-stitching on the farm. (The project is for my mom afterall.)
- I have a difficult time convincing myself that it's a good thing to get out of bed before 6:45 AM. Which could prove to be a distaster on Wednesday, as my plane leaves BR at 6:15 AM.
- I will be in the lovely land of Huskers within a week. Can you tell that I'm excited?
As I was at home on Friday, here is the feast for your enjoyment.
Appetizer On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being highest) how much do enjoy watching sports on television?
7, most of the time. If it's Husker-related, then a 10 if we're winning & a 9 if we're not.
Soup If you could completely memorize any one work of fiction, which one would you pick?
Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban. By far, my favorite in the series.
Salad What is your favorite breakfast food?
This is a hard question to answer, because I love me some breakfast foods. But, alas, my favorite food overall would have to be cereal. Now the type of cereal varies from day-to-day, but generally it's along the lines of Frosted Flakes or Blueberry Morning.
Main Course Name something fun you can do for less than $10.00.
Go to the BR or Sioux Empire Zoo.
Dessert How long does it usually take you to fall asleep?
Usually around 20 minutes on a good night. Or during Futurama.

Have a great weekend! Happy Friday the 13th. I hope this blog entry finds you safely hidden from Jason.
And now for this week's feast:
Appetizer What is your favorite fruit?
Hmmm....I really like most types of fruits, except for evil tomatoes. But if I were forced at gunpoint to pick my most favorite, I would have to go with the strawberry. Followed closely by peaches, blueberries, apples, melon (water & cantaulope), bananas...you get the idea.
Soup Who is someone you consider as a great role model?
I'm going to go with a 'public' figure to answer this, although it's truly hard to choose between Britney and Paris - but alas, I shall go with Jason Bateman. He's funny. He's cute. He's shown that an actor can move past being a 1980s child star. He hasn't been in the tabloids that much. And, most importantly, he may google himself and find this blog entry and then decide that as a great role model, he should assist me with paying off some bills.
Salad If you were to spend one night anywhere within an hour of your home, where would you choose?
New Orleans, of course.
Main Course Name something you do too often.
Get coffee from Starbucks. (The money is laid out on my desk in preparation for this morning's run.)
Dessert Fill in the blank: I really like ___________ because ____________.
I really like Fridays, because I get to wear jeans to work.

Today's Goal: To finish filing 7月11日 As I sit here in my office, breathing in the fumes from a freshly laid tile floor, I think to myself:
"Self, I could really use a cupcake with more icing than cake."
This is when the internal monologue begins about how I shouldn't be craving sweets, I should be satisfied with the totally healthy lunch (macaroni-tuna salad, cucumber, blueberries, carrots & peanut butter) that I just ate. Also, I have to look decent in my dress in two weeks for my cousin's wedding. On top of that, I really should be pinching pennies. Why else am I wasting so much time finding & cutting out coupons if I just use the money I'm saving to finance the electric bill for the bookstore?
Then I realize that I've spent 10 minutes arguing with myself about nothing. This is when I begin to wonder:
"Am I watching too much Seinfeld?"

Today's Goal: To avoid the temptations of all things cake. 7月10日 and a venti iced white mocha (with skim) from Starbucks.
Here are the 5 resolutions that I put forth on January 8, 2007:
- Read at least one book per week. (Of these books, at least 5 should be categorized as 'classics' by either a library or bn.com.)
- Exercise 3 times a week for at least 30 minutes.
- Send 'real' (aka 'non-electronic') cards to friends and families for special occasions.
- Mend fences.
- Bring my lunch to work 3 times a week.
And here is how I'm doing:
- While I have done well overall, with more than 50 books read this year. I have not finished a book since June 22. Which is not good. I am close to finishing a book. But, it's a classic. And as such, intimidates me and/or puts me to sleep. Although, I do feel as though I will rally. Especially with the new Harry Potter book on the horizon.
- Doing much better. I've already walked two times this week, and for the most part my calendar shows that I'm doing my part to not be a couch potato. For the most part. There are still days, that lead into a couple or more in a row. At least I'm improving.
- I have made this resolution my bitch. Honestly. I totally rock at sending cards. Which reminds me, I need to get a couple of them in the mail today. Possibly on my way to grab some caffeine.
- Tis hard to mend fences when the fences move away. But, as reported in yesterday's blog entry, I have been more social as of late. And I'd like to hope that some fences aren't in need of mending any more.
- I honestly plan on bringing my lunch to work, now whether I actually manage to make it and/or eat it once it is here. Now that's the real story. My goal is to only go out to lunch 2 more times between today (July 10, 2007) and the date of my departure for SD (July 25, 2007). Join me in this most likely futile journey, won't you?

But before, I do, here is a moment of irony brought to you by the random fortune cookie generator on facebook. Enjoy!
Joy will soon come from something unexpected. (Shout out to the sibling!)
My weekend went as follows:
- While walking across campus at 4:30-ish on Friday, I ran into Amtrak.
- Amtrak then beckoned me to follow him. But, alas, he did not make me a fisher of me...yet.
- I joined Amtrak for an adult beverage or two at the local watering hole.
- While enjoying our beverages, we ran into birthday boy Blaire (spelling?) & his video game addicted husband Michael.
- After enjoying the overall ambiance of the watering hole, we traveled to a local Thai restaurant to partake in dining with Amtrak's friend Emilie.
- While sharing delightful dinner banter, it was decided that the night was too perfect to end now. So, we decided to continue the journey by enjoying a glass of wine at another local restaurant. This one being of the Italian food nature.
- After a glass of wine, a shared slice of tiramisu and a chocolate martini, we were still in the mood to be social, so after changing out of my work clothes, we headed downtown.
- While downtown, we sat on the roof of a tall building, sipped on cool beverages and tried to ignore the poorly dressed man leaning over the edge of the roof in front of us while we enjoyed watching the fireworks being set off by teenagers below. (I assume they were teenagers.)
- Alas, the night ended after a small spill and a bunch of laughter. Overall, it was a delightful journey from work to home.
- Once I returned to the Jumpin' Husker Apartment, I apparently texted a few people.
- I rose early on Saturday morning, due to the fact that Becky was going to soon be at my apartment complex.
- You see, we were going on a blueberry journey. Or in better terms, a journey to pick our own blueberries.
- After a short stop at the local Wal-Mart, for donuts & stuff, we began our journey to Clinton, LA.
- On the journey to Clinton, we noticed a lot of big, scary birds. And a churck with the word "Shady" in its name. That just seems wrong to me.
- Eventually, we found our destination. And soon began picking our own blueberries. (Which only cost $1/pound!)
- While picking, we enjoyed a delightful conversation. We also enjoyed moments of rain. (The weather was more than perfect.) And also, the fun of mocking other people. ("Mom! I hit the jackpot!")
- After completing our picking, which honestly I could have done for about another hour or two, we decided that we should probably head home.
- Total amount of berries picked: Me-5 pounds; Becky-8 pounds. Becky also picked a handful of fresh figs.
- On the journey home, we ran into the "Red, White & Blueberry Festival" in Clinton. We had to stop.
- At the festival, we purchased cracklins (Becky), a cookbook (Me) & jam (both of us). We also enjoyed a wonderful catfish poboy while listening to the local gospel singers. (Which I believe is one of the larger families showcased on Discovery or Discovery Health, I just can't find them on a website.)
- Alas, the day of wholesome debauchery needed to end, as Becky needed to get home to her family and I needed to get home and freeze my blueberries.
- The remainder of the weekend went rather smoothly: Spoke with my mom & sister on the phone; Talked with a few friends from Nebraska; Cross-stitched; Continued to watch Season One of How I Met Your Mother on DVD; Played with the Jumpin' Husker Ferrets.
Overall, it was a wonderfully low-key, yet social, weekend. I hope that trend continues. (Fingers crossed.)

Today's Goal: To cut things into 1/4s. 7月2日 Why am I avoiding Starbucks?
Basically it's due to the fact that I'm addicted to Venti Iced White Mochas (with skim).
Which really don't sound that bad when I type the full name out. And they aren't the worst thing on the menu at Starbucks. But when one (Me) drinks at least 4 of them a week (on average, that is), well then they are full of empty calories that add up to a larger than wanted backside.
So, as of today, I am trying to curb my Starbucks spending for a few reasons:
- Me:On a Diet needs to be more than Me:Walking.
- Coffee costs money. By saving the money that I tend to spend at Starbucks, I may be able to afford new towels sooner.
- I'm hyper enough without the caffeine.
As I just stated to Monelle via AIM, I am a geek.
Well, time to be productive...
