Another day in the life of me

Thursday, September 28, 2006

5:54 PM
Seinfeld just announced that he's not an orgy kind of guy on a rerun of his popular show. I'm kinda glad to hear that. Yet, I now have a horrible image in my head that just won't go away. Just finished a bowl of Lucky Charms. Strange fact about me: I love cereal, but rarely eat it for breakfast. Wearing my Renner Centennial t-shirt and shorts. Preparing to finish cross-stitch project #3. Finally got more DMC-928.

6:03 PM
"No court on Earth would ever overrule the findings, not even in Los Angeles," Mandy from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.

6:22 PM
Texting friends. Watching cartoons. I am so 16-years of age.

6:36 PM
"I'm shaving my shoulders. Shaving it all away," Homer from The Simpsons.

7:18 PM
Why do I still care about who he's giving skins to?

7:22 PM
"By the way, you're eyes are too big for your head. You're Finding Nemo," My Name is Earl.

7:33 PM
"Look's like someone took the slow train from Philly," The Office.

7:38 PM
"I love inside jokes. I'd love to be a part of one someday," Michael from The Office.
(Can you tell that I like quotes tonight? Either that or I'm just paying more attention to the shows tonight.)

7:48 PM
I think that I like Ugly Betty a lot.

7:58 PM
KT Tunstall rules the world of television soundtracks: Ugly Betty, Men In Trees, Pepper Dennis...

8:22 PM
Almost done cross-stitching. Which means I will soon be backstitching again. Ugh. An Abita would be yummy right about now.

8:28 PM
Am I the only one totally creeped out by the thought of a Screech sex tape?

8:33 PM
Katherine's having a bad day again on CSI. A really, really bad day again.

9:03 PM
Why am I still bothered by something someone said most likely meant to bother me and probably contains no truth? Cleaned the ferret cage. Trust me it needed it badly. Drinking Dr. Pepper.

9:29 PM
I miss karaoke night. And cherries.

9:37 PM
Back-stitching again.

9:42 PM
I hope Shannon Doherty never breaks up with me. Although I'd have to have a real relationship with someone for that to happen, so I may be in the clear. She scares me.

9:58 PM
People that I am tired of hearing about on the 'news':

Yesterday...

Wednesday, September 27, 2006

6:30 PM
Drinking water. Wearing a blue SD Girls State t-shirt (that has seen better days) and white flannel shorts. Turning channels to find The Simpsons. Long day = weary soul.

6:34 PM
Homer & Marge are portraying Adam & Eve. Wearing nothing but fig leaves. Thank goodness for cartoons that include fig leaves. Is it wrong that I learn more about religion from tv than from any other source?

6:55 PM
I do not like backstitching.

7:20 PM
I still like David Boreanaz. (I am watching Bones.) I think that I would make a great Angel baby mother.

7:30 PM
Am I the only one obsessed with the Audrey Hepburn GAP ads?

7:53 PM
When will my papercuts heal? Who would want more than one spouse?
"I'm sure Rebecca is not your only source for release," Bones.

8:02 PM
When stressed, go to Camp Lazlo.

8:12 PM
In what universe would Darth Vader and Optimus Prime meet in order to fight?

8:18 PM
"One minute I have pants, the next minute I have my dignity around my ankles," Camp Lazlo.

8:28 PM
I still hate back-stitching!

8:35 PM
So disappointed that of montreal sold out to Outback Steakhouse.

8:52 PM
Mmmmm...bagel chips.

8:54 PM
Pauly Shore in SD at Thanksgiving time. And there are still leaves on the trees and green crops. Must be the unreal world of Son In Law.

9:10 PM
I hate to admit this, but I really like Jeffrey.

9:14 PM
I  Uli. But her dresses have all looked alike so far. Hopefully, her Edward Scissorhands approach equals gold for her. I fear that she may be the one who is 'out' tonight.

9:18 PM
Can't wait to see how Keith supports his "it was a conspiracy against me theory" next week.

9:22 PM
Laura's making the same dress again. Beads everywhere.

9:25 PM
I miss taking photographs. I should really buy a new camera. I ate too many bagel chips.

9:29 PM
The Fighting Okra mascot from Delta State University is on Good Eats.

9:32 PM
Tee hee...Uli said that Michael's dress/picture look like a sex ad. She said sex. Kinda worried about Michael.

9:36 PM
Hummus stuffed donuts =

9:43 PM
Next on FOX - "When Prom Dresses Attack" starring Michael's dress.

9:51 PM
I was wrong about Uli. I am very happy to admit my own ignorance. Apparently, I was not alone. America voted to BRAVO saying that she should be 'out.'

9:56 PM
Uli wins.....Laura's in...so is Michael....and Jeffrey...WTF? No one leaves? I'm happy, but disappointed at the same time.

Tuesday in a nutshell

Tuesday, September 26, 2007

9:27 AM
Sadly, I am sweaty from the simple walk across campus from the bus to my office.

9:48 AM
Paperwork will be the death of me. As soon as one pile is gone, another three appear out of nowhere. I'm starting to appreciate the humor of Dilbert and/or Drew Carey more and more each day.

9:57 AM
Already beginning to feel hunger pains.

10:11 AM
Do I want Cane's or sushi?

10:13 AM
I really want to wander over to the Union for iced tea and sugar-filled pastries.

10:26 AM
I wonder how many words it takes on average before one loses their voice.

10:36 AM
There are a lot of freaks in this world. And they all seem to have a LiveJournal account.

10:44 AM
Facebook has gone global. I predict a riot. Soon. On every college campus in the United States. Or at least a lot of interesting commentary in the campus newspaper.

10:54 AM
I really wish I was still slightly disturbed by the reports that cross my desk. Mildly surprised even. I am way too young to be this cynical.

11:00 AM
Time to move piles of my paperwork to other people's desks. Then, start thinking about lunch. Mmmm...

Another block of time in my life

Monday, September 25, 2006

9:15 PM
Finally home from training. It went well, but I'm beyond tired. Left-over bagel chips and dip for supper. Yum! Ferrets seem to be plotting their escape from the cage. Not tonight. I'm too tired.

9:40 PM
I think I like Matthew Perry more as a dramatic actor. I have papercuts on both of my hands and a scrape on my arm. Training battle wounds. Drinking raspberry lemonade Crystal Light.

9:43 PM
I think I may have an ingrown toe nail. Hopefully it's only a sore toe due to being in dress shoes for 12+ hours. I don't want to go through what my sister did. Not at all.

9:49 PM
I miss Wings. I do appreciate the fact that a majority of the actors have current tv shows though.
"I hate spunk," Network guy on Studio 60.

9:56 PM
I must admit that I am a big fan of parady. Off to brush my teeth.

9:59 PM
Things to bring to work tomorrow: binders, blank CDs, bagel chips.

10:01 PM
Two more signs of the apocolypse: The Saints are winning. The Twins made it to the post-season. (MoSus is going to hurt me for that comment.)

10:05 PM
"Oh! Black faced Hitler! You make everything sound bad!" Jon Stewart

10:09 PM
Commercials about do-it-yourself face lifts scare me.

10:13 PM
So, there's a high school student who is suing his school district for discriminating against him for being a male. His argument includes that there are too many female teachers and students don't get graded for participating in sports. Another reason that I sometimes consider changing my profession.

10:15 PM
Vonage commercials annoy me.

10:18 PM
Steven Tyler of Aerosmith has recently announced that he has Hepatitus-C. I see a telathon in his future.

10:23 PM
Ivan is desperately trying to claw his way out of his cage. Little does he know. He's only clawing at air. Kinda sad. Really cute.

10:25 PM
So tired. Yet not tired enough to fall asleep. I really, really need to get groceries.

10:35 PM
Sometimes I wish that I was smart enough to watch intellectual television instead of E!

10:39 PM
"Mommy! I want a mullett!" Stewie on Family Guy

10:42 PM
There's something uber phallic about a group of men sitting around and talking about a lack of meat. (Quizno's commercial)

11:15 PM
Shoot! I fell asleep in my chair again. I guess it is truly time to go to bed now.

Just give me 2 hours

This week's blog entries will be a little different than those from the past. For the week of September 24 - 30, I will take a two hour time period (approximately) each day to write down what I am doing and thinking at different intervals of time. I don't believe that I will discover anything great about myself, but it may help in explaining who I am as a whole. (I hope that it's mildly entertaining, at least.)

6:51 PM
Drinking peach white tea with honey. Watching Kill Bill Vol. 2 on TNT. Listening to my washing machine run. Wearing white tank top and green shorts. Craving company.

6:55 PM
Placed blanket, beach towel and Bounce dryer sheet into the dryer. Three Bs in the D. Uma's recovering from buckshot to the chest.

7:00 PM
Alarm goes off indicating it's time to change the channel. Change the channel to FOX. Alarmed by the black screen. Followed by Ralphie and a bookshelf. Followed by a Ford commercial. Crave popcorn. Need butter, salt and popcorn. Drink tea instead.

7:08 PM
"It's like you're the Jesus of carpentry," Bart Simpson.

7:16 PM
"You provide food and sexual release for your handyman," Mrs. Lovejoy.
Finished a bowl of Cocoa Pebbles.

7:23 PM
Flipped to NBC Sunday Night Football. Denver's starting offensive line will not introduce themselves or talk to the media. Who knew? Need to get more milk.

7:25 PM
"Don't you want Daddy's lies to be true?" Homer Simpson.

7:30 PM
Drinking water. Watching animation on FOX. Listening to dryer and a/c. Need to load dishwasher. Ivan's rolling around in his ferret sleeping bag. Cute.

7:35 PM
Febreze Summer and Splash smells yummy.
"It's like having the world's largest wine cooler and no girls from New Jersey," Roger from American Dad.

7:40 PM
X-Men 3 comes out on DVD soon. That's almost the last movie I saw in the theater. Sad.

7:45 PM
Super dry hands = hand cream. Tonight's flavor: Ginger Verbana from Bath & Body Works.

7:47 PM
Stan, from American Dad, has a dead squirrel pencil holder.

7:52 PM
Lesson of the night: Golden poo makes people crazy.

7:58 PM
Things to bring to work tomorrow: box of Kleenex, quote books, aspirin. I really want a Cherry Limeade from Sonic.

8:10 PM
Commercials suck today.

8:12 PM
"The truth is what it is. What should be is a dirty lie." - Lenny Bruce

8:18 PM
How scary would a roaming gang of Tom Brokaw's actually be? (Fast Fact: Brokaw is from South Dakota.)

8:21 PM
Although my hand cream claims to be non-greasy, it leaves marks on my book. Also, why is The War at Home still on the air and Arrested Development is not?

8:31 PM
Back to Kill Bill Vol. 2 on TNT. Still drinking water. Listening to my upstairs neighbor wander around.
"I call it the undisputed truth," Bill.
(Quiz: Who is Bill's favorite superhero?)

8:37 PM
Who knew that Billy Ray Cyrus had a new CD? GAC did apparently. His career's on the rise again - tv show with his daughter on the Disney Channel, video on GAC, no more mullett...

8:43 PM
The girl on My Super Sweet 16 is named Barbie. And she's dying her poodles pink. I will be getting my tubes tied soon.

8:50 PM
Bill has been killed.

8:51 PM
Internal debate - Do I want to watch Brothers & Sisters or Adult Swim? Or should I read?

Ramblings of a <Kinda> Mad Woman

While sitting in a colleague's class yesterday, I realized the following things about myself:
  • I totally freak out when I have to present to a group of people. Even if it's a group of 6 students. I hate public speaking. Have always hated public speaking. Yet, I force myself to do it, because it's part of my job and it's part of my personal/professional development.
  • I have three distinct nervous habits: (1) giggling; (2) leg shaking and (3) picking at my fingernails.
  • I feel more confidant about my speaking ability when I am the only member of the panel left in the room. Yup, I went last on purpose. Basically, so that my other colleagues on campus cannot see what a poor speaker I am. (At least in my own head.)

What I observed about others during my hour or so of sitting in my colleague's class yesterday:

  • Amtrak does a great presentation even when he's completely stressed out about Homecoming and his cell phone running out of juice.
  • Students tune out after a mere 5 minutes of conversation, no matter how interesting the subject is.
  • Everyone seems to be considering a career move shortly.
  • Students won't share their food with the presenters due to the fact that they need the food for their own presentations. (I saw some cream based chip dip that most likely wasn't well refrigerated, that's just dangerous business.)
  • I miss teaching a class. I know that I stated that I hate presenting. I do. But, I also  interacting with students on a weekly basis. And watching them learn. And discovering new methods of sharing information. It's a fun game for me.

In other news about me, I was quite disappointed to realize that there was not a new episode of Project Runway last night. I seriously thought that I had gone into some strange time warp where Kayne and Vincent never existed and we were still loving Daniel and Chloe. I was tired last night. Sorry.

So, instead of reading or cleaning, as I should have last night, I ended up watching the PBS documentary on Andy Warhol, part one. It was great. I had forgotten how much I adore PBS. I still miss the Best of Breed series, but Andy Warhol will do. The second part of the documentary airs tonight. It starts with his voyage into film and The Warehouse...it should be enlightening, to say the least.

While watching PBS last night, I realized that I need to do something more artistic with my life. Maybe a ceramics class. My mom was very good at ceramics. Or go to an artsy movie at the artsy theater on Siegen. I just feel that I need to do something. If you have any ideas on how I should get my art groove on, let me know. (That's just how unartistic I am at the moment.)

11 Reasons I Will Miss Watching the Frog

On Sunday, September 17, 2006, I felt an inner sadness as I watched The WB wane into non-existence. I rewatched the first episodes of Felicity, Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dawson's Creek. I was scared by the fact that I could remember where I was for the premiere of each of those shows (all located in Brookngs), and even more scared by the fact that I called a friend who would also appreciate that fact - and he was with his girlfriend in a town that no longer carried the WB, so we could not share the memories. Which is okay. I'm still getting used to the fact that he is finally dating the girl that he's talked about with so much longing...actually, he's been talking about her for the same amount of time the WB was a television station: around 11 years. (Sorry, General, I couldn't resist one last sarcastic remark at your behalf. Not that it will be the last one ever, just the last one in this paragraph.)

So, in honor of the 11 years of the Frog, here is today's list of things I will miss about the WB:
  1. Television shows that are aimed at young adults, yet have an appeal to older 'young' adults, too. Examples: Felicity and Dawson's Creek.
  2. Television shows that were once on one of the major networks, but are picked up by The WB in order for the creator to maintain creative control over the show. Examples: Sabrina, the Teenage Witch and Grounded for Life.
  3. Television shows that are spin-offs of other animated television shows. Example: Pinky & the Brain.
  4. Animated television shows that are brilliant, yet never stand a chance of maintaining an audience because they are aired across from Must See TV on NBC. Example: The Oblongs, it originally aired at the same time as Friends, so sad.
  5. Intelligent television shows that win a lot of critical aclaim, but never have a steady audience. Example: Jack & Bobby.
  6. Television shows that showcase pretty people, just for the sake that they are pretty. They don't really have to have talent. Example: Nikki and The Jamie Foxx Show.
  7. Television shows that become cult classics before they air their first episode. Example: Angel.
  8. Television shows that eventually have to leave the WB due to creative differences between the network and the show creator. Example: Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
  9. Television shows that showcase real high school problems, like getting married before the big basketball game. Example: One Tree Hill.
  10. Television shows starring people from Nickelodeon and/or 90210. Example: What I Like About You and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.
  11. Television shows that, like the Energizer Bunny, keep going and going and going...even if they should've ended years ago. Example: 7th Heaven.

As you can tell, I am very random today. It has a lot to do with the fact that I have a lot of things piled on my desk to do and little to no motivation to complete them at this particular moment. Thanks MTV!

In other news, I was out of the office last Thursday and Friday due to feeling yucky. I am currently feeling better. Thanks for asking.

During my self-induced 4-day weekend, I accomplished the following noteworthy items:

  • Read 3 books (Dry, Practical Magic, The Kite Runner). All are excellent books.
  • Almost finished cross-stitch project #3. I ran out of DMC #928 and have not gotten to Hobby Lobby yet to pick up some more. So, this project may take a little longer than normal to complete.
  • Watched the Huskers revert to their running ways against USC. Not really sure why we didn't utilize the West Coast offense while on the West Coast, but I'm not paid the big bucks like Callahan, do I now? (Still upset we lost, but we didn't lose as badly as we could've...which is a good thing.)
  • Finished watching Season 3 of Arrested Development.
  • Discovered Men in Trees. The new Anne Heche television series on ABC. I like it. Which means it won't last long, I'm sure.
  • Talked with my friend Shane on the phone. He's doing super well in Idaho, and says "Hey!" to everyone.

Well, I should be getting back to work. I guess.

Finally...

a cartoon after my own heart:

101 Guilty Pleasures, final edition

76.              Wal-Mart Free Samples – Did you know that by simply answering a few questions at walmart.com, you can get free samples of stuff in the mail? I used some of these samples this past weekend. Does that make me cheap?

77.              Pee Wee’s Playhouse – I really wasn’t that obsessed with this show as a youth. But now that it’s on The Cartoon Network, I’m in love. Plus, I like trying to remember what the word of the day will be…

78.              Leinenkugels – A northern adult beverage favorite. That I cannot get here.

79.              Amy’s Mixed CDs – Delightfully tacky and sexually motivated music. It makes me giggle. A lot.

80.              Lindsay Lohan – I claim to not like her, but I love the gossip about her. And I did like Mean Girls a lot.

81.              Chai Tea – It’s kinda like iced tea, but not quite. Plus it makes me feel like I’m healthy and stuff.

82.              Strawberry Shortcake, the ORIGINAL Strawberry Shortcake – With a child’s body, not a Barbie body. I have my original doll at home. In a safe place away from as much humidity as possible.

83.              Retrojunk.com – Where I can find commercials and other fun things from the 70s, 80s, 90s and so forth.

84.              Circle K – Within walking distance of my apartment. Allows me to curb my Butterfinger Crisp cravings.

85.              #2 with a Dr Pepper from McDonalds – I am soooo happy that they brought this back into existence. I like cheeseburgers. A lot.

86.              Red Dress Shoes – I mention them a lot. But for a pair of $3 shoes, they are pretty awesome. And they make me feel like I’m in Oz. (Not the tv show, the book.)

87.              Brown Reclining Chair – My grandma won me this in a raffle at her retirement community. It has moved with me twice in Brookings, three times in Lincoln and twice in Baton Rouge. It will be put to rest after my next move. Most likely. Although, I do spend a lot of time in this chair: reading, cross-stitching, reading…

88.              JANE Magazine (originally Sassy) – I would love to claim that I am still a teenager. This magazine makes me believe that I am. Plus, it gives some great sex advice. Almost better than Cosmo.

89.              Women Television – aka Oxygen and/or Lifetime. I’m obsessed with the programming on these networks. Which means that I’m in their demographic: I’m a female.

90.              Blackshirts – Nebraska’s defensive front-line, for those of you who don’t follow football.

91.              Winnie the Pooh – Again, I am female. I went through a huge Pooh phase in my late teens and early 20s. I still have a lot of coloring books and window clings.

92.              Clerks: The Animated Series – Quite embarrassed by this fact for two reasons: (1) The show kinda sucked and (2) It was a part of ABC’s TGIF, for a very short time.

93.              Target – I complain about the store a lot, but I truly do love it. And will go out of my way to shop there. For just about anything.

94.              Cinnamon Candles – Make me think of Christmas.

95.              Long Showers – Washes the stress away better than Calgon.

96.              Dr. Suess – My apartment looks like a shrine to the man. Two prints and a huge Grinch cardboard cut-out.

97.              Golden GirlsPart of my Lifetime fascination. I just can’t get enough of women that used to seem really old, now they seem to be the same age as my parents.

98.              Julia Roberts’ Movies – Pretty Woman, Runaway Bride, My Best Friend’s Wedding…it really doesn’t matter which movie it is, I will eventually watch and/or own it. Therefore, allowing me to watch it many, many times. And then when TBS buys the rights to it, I’ll watch it then too. I swear her movies contain the same spices as the Colonel’s chicken.

99.              Now That’s What I Call Music CDs – Although I only own one, that contains a Britney song of all things, I do watch each commercial to see who has been voted most popular for the kids. Gosh, I’m old.

100.          Randomness – Not too shocking. I switch subjects as often as Lindsay Lohan forgets to put on underwear. Within one telephone conversation with my sister, I changed the subject 4 times within one sentence. None of the subjects related. To anyone besides me, of course.

101.          Checkmarks – The wonderful feeling I get when I check off the final thing on a list. Even when I have to add the item. Just to check it off.

Took a couple days off of work due to illness. I'm feeling better.

I will share more random thoughts later.

My personal nightmare & 101 Guilty Pleasures, part six

This scares me more than Hostel...
Reality Check

71.              Snickers Blizzard Frozen Treats – Salty. Chocolately. Ice creamy. So many reasons this has been a favorite treat for years. Plus, it stays in the cup when the server tips it upside down. How can you not love that?

72.              Behind the Music on VH-1 – I hate to admit that I will and have watched this show even if I don’t like the musical artist being featured. Mainly because I love the music that is played when someone goes to jail or rehab. Then again when the music turns happy when they find God or a fad diet.

73.              Stripper Names – I mean who wouldn’t adore a person named Charity Melons? That has to be her given name. Parents are evil like that.

74.              Geico Commercials – I have claimed to not like the gecko that was used for years. I truly miss the gecko now. Bring him back. The new Geico commercials make my tonsils bleed.

75.              Blue October – I spent the summer humming along with Hate Me on the radio. Now I still hum, but I’m slightly annoyed while doing so. Trust me. I’ll like the song again by October. I’d put money on it.

Goals for Today:

  • Actually work on my To Do list, instead of working on someone else's.
  • Leave work at an appropriate time. No 5:30 and beyond tonight.
  • Vacuum.
  • Bathe the Jumpin' Husker Ferrets. Not as high of a priority as vacuuming. And they'll hate me for it at first. Then I'll give them treats and all will be fine.
  • Watch Project Runway.
  • Call Shane in Idaho. I keep meaning to. Then I fall asleep. I am a sad, sad girl.

Thought I'd share anyways.

101 Guilty Pleasures, part five

61.           Christian Slater – I’ve loved him since he said “There are no stupid questions,” in Heathers. I have stood by him through all of his alcohol, drug, ass grabbing scandals. I hope to see him soon in Bobby. Did I mention that I named my dog after him? Yup, Slater was named after a movie star. Can I get more pathetic?

62.           Sleeping In – As a former farm kid, my version of ‘sleeping in’ is much different than the average Joe’s. I love it when I can sleep in until 7:30 or 8:00 AM. (I continually get more sad as this list progresses.) Waking up, rolling out of bed to the couch, watching meaningless television…does it get much better than a Saturday or Sunday?

63.           ESPN – I claim to not like sports that much, yet I find myself watching Sport Center a lot. I have even found myself watching both hours of Game Day on Saturdays. It’s a madness that I can only blame the Huskers for.

64.           Texting Obnoxious Messages While Riding the Bus – I know that I have already discussed texting in general, but there is a difference between texting “Lupper?” versus “Gross people making out on the bus.” The difference is one I enjoy (former) and one causes me to throw up a little (latter).

65.           #3 with a Large Sprite from McDonalds for Breakfast – Mmmm…bacon, egg and cheese biscuit.

66.           All the Small Things – I adore baby animals, miniature foods and TLC and/or Discovery Network specials on little people. Not exactly sure why, but I do.

67.         E-cards – I will send an e-card to people for no real reason at all. Birthdays, Tuesdays, stress, I feel like it…I love filling up people’s in-boxes. I am evil like that.

68.           Sparkletags – much like e-cards, I am obsessed with placing fun things on people’s MySpace walls. Usually for the same reasons as listed above…I am predictable with a capital “P.”

69.          On-line Quizzes – Which Powerpuff Girl am I? What color blue am I? What is my Web-Q? I have done a lot of these quizzes and I am still obsessed with them.

70.         *67 – The evil way of calling someone without them knowing it’s you on caller ID. I don’t use this often, but I have when I’ve gotten a prank call on my own phone.

One word to describe yesterday: Wet.

We had a lot of rain in a short amount of time. We needed the rain, but not sure if it was needed all at once. It was fun to watch it pour outside while dining with KD for lunch. It was even nicer that the rain subsided everytime I needed to go outside. So, overall it didn't negatively effect me much. But, I have to complain about the weather from time to time. It's part of my Midwestern charm.

Beyond the rain, I worked late and still managed to get very little done. It's a talent that I have. Not sure how it happens, it just does. I hope to be home at the regular time tonight. We shall see.

On a happier note, Happy Birthday, Hope!

101 Guilty Pleasures, part four

51.           Beaches – Did you ever know that you’re my hero? And everything I’d like to be? I can fly higher than an eagle, because you are the wind beneath my wings. Sappiest song ever. Yet, it draws me in every time I hear it on the radio or see it on TV. It was on AMC over the weekend. It will be coming to Oxygen soon. I will need to stock up on the Kleenex.

52.         Tetris – If I still owned my original Nintendo GameBoy, I’d still rock the casbah with this game. Instead, I play it for hours on my cell phone. Good use of my battery, I know.

53.           Barnes & Noble’s Bargain Bin – Where else can you find a hardcover book for $1.00 and they still give you a 10% University discount?

54.       “Literally” and “Actually” – Two most overused words in my vocabulary. Half the time, I use them incorrectly. Mrs. H, high school English teacher, would be so disappointed with me.

55.           PayLess Shoe Source – One of the few places that has dress shoes in my size, approximately clown sized. Plus, who can resist the 30th BOGO sale of the year?

56.          Inappropriate Humor – I blame my father for this curse. I will laugh when someone falls down. Even though I get pissed when people laugh when I fall, which is often, unfortunately. Potty humor makes me giggle. Gender based jokes. I am really an awful human being.

57.          The Color Pink – I am a redhead. Redheads look gross in the color pink. Therefore, I cannot wear pink. I dislike gender stereotypes (unless in a tasteless joke), so I don’t appreciate that pink = baby girl. Yet, I find myself attracted to the color like a moth to a flame. Not exactly sure why. Not going to question it too much.

58.          Adoption Day @ Petco/PetSmart – I love my ferrets, don’t get me wrong. But there is just something about walking into a pet store filled with dogs and cats looking for a home that is just fun. I feel a little guilty by the fact that I know that I won’t be taking one home. But I quickly get over that guilt as I see the cute puppy faces.

59.           The Powerpuff Girls – I blame Leah’s kids, P & P, for this obsession.

60.          What I Like About You – A coming of age television show starring Amanda Bynes that got cancelled without my permission. It makes me sad. But, I doubt that the CW would’ve picked it up. And I already used all of my ‘please, please, please’ karma with them for Veronica Mars. So I can’t complain too loudly. (Luckily repeats of the show are on the WB during the day for the time being.)

101 Guilty Pleasures, part three

41.  Skittles - capture the ! Who wouldn't want to do that?

42.  Spencer's Gifts - I rarely buy anything in there, but I do enjoy wandering around the store and going "Can they sell that in the mall?" Especially now that they have real adult toys in stock. Watch out Hearts?

43.  No Shower/Pajama Saturdays - rules for no shower/pajama Saturdays include (1) not showering and (2) not changing out of one's pajamas. The day of the week is not important, but it probably should be one that does not involve work or contact with other people. Typical activities conducted on no shower/pajama Saturdays include watching cartoons, cross-stitching, reading, cleaning, being a bum.

44.  Meatloaf - not the food. I am not a meatloaf eating type of person, even though I am of Nordic and Midwestern decent. I am talking about the opera-rock singing fool. I love almost all of his music, excluding his recent American Idol appearance. That was just embarassing.

45.  Frappaccinos - for the most part I've kicked my caffeine habit. (Used to drink around a 6-pack of Mt Dew a day.) I do indulge in iced tea quite often, but I try to keep it sugar free for the most part. But there's something about a trip to Starbucks where I can order a tall mocha frap with whipped cream that makes me swoon. It also makes me almost diabetic, but that's another story.

46.  Arthur - not the cheesy movies starring Dudley Moore. Yes, I am talking about the children's program on PBS. My sister and I have been Arthur fans for a long time. Which is semi-weird as it has only been on PBS for about 10 years. And I have been out of high school for 10 years. Again, I am a bit slow at times.

47.  Denise Austin Workouts - I have the best intentions to work out at 6:00 AM while watching Denise Austin's shows on Lifetime. Honestly, I do. But I find myself watching the show more than working out. Main reason for this: I never see what movement is going to happen next and I'm too slow to realize to change movements until she's onto the 3rd movement after the one I'm stuck on. This is why I like my dependable Yoga for Dummies DVD so much - rewind or pause.

48.  Quotes of the Day - I like sappy, motivational quotes. I guess this means that I may be sensitive. Or a chick. Today's quote: "You have to have emptiness before it can be filled. You have to exhale before you can inhale." - Tom Yeomans. Told you that I'm a sap.

49.  The Simpsons - anything related to the yellow family from FOX. Whether it's the show, the corny 1990s t-shirts, random quotes...I'm a freak about Springfield.

50.  Troll Dolls - I have a collection of over 100 of this ugly cute dolls at my parents' house. They're not even from the first wave of cooldom in the 1970s, they're from the retro is cool movement of the 1990s. I am lame.

Random thoughts from last night:

  • Why does everybody call/text so late at night? (It was 9:30 PM. I had fallen asleep at 8:00 PM, since I wasn't feeling well.)
  • Is that really Jimmy Smits on PeeWee's Playhouse?
  • Why have I not purchased a new Brita pitcher?

101 Guilty Pleasures, part two

The madness continues below:

21.  Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers - so yummy that they're horrible for your health.
22.  Sweet Tea - same reasoning as Raising Cane's. Plus it prevents me from using the sugar packets at restaurants.
23.  Brat Pack Movies - I  Molly Ringwold! Pretty in Pink and Sixteen Candles are among my most favorite movies EVER. Main reason: a strong red-headed female lead. That doesn't happen often.
24.  Gossip - whether it's celebrity gossip or complaining about co-workers, I find myself venturing into this world more than I should. Did you hear what she said about him at the place? Many of my stories include those words.
25.  Web comics - such as Married to the Sea and Toothpaste for Dinner. Both are horribly wrong to enjoy, but they're horribly funny at the same time.
26.  The Weather Channel - I picked up this habit from the aftermath of the hurricanes. I try to catch every Local on the 8s. It may be a sign of my OCD. Or it could be due to my love of the weather. Who are you to judge?
27.  Lucky Charms Cereal - has no real nutrition beyond the yummy marshmallows.
28.  Law & Order-type Shows - I get sucked into Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU every time I run across them on tv. Main reason I avoid USA and TNT. I still miss Homicide, it was one of my favorite shows of this genre.
29.  King Cake - I have become acclimated to the Louisiana ways. Especially the sweet yummy cake that is served during Mardi Gras season. So unhealthy, yet so yummy.
30.  Romance Novels - I am proud to report that I have been Harlequin free for about 5 years. Yet, there is still a draw to a book where you can turn to a certain page number or chapter and know that there will be dirtiness. May need to wander to Barnes & Noble to see what's on the sales rack...hmmm...
31.  Mainstream Music - I do not enjoy all music that is played on the radio. For the most part, I like the more alternative music that seems to only be played at gay bars or on college radio. Yet, as I have stated many times before in this very blog, I find myself bopping along with Britney, Christina and Jessica. The songs just won't leave my head at times. I blame NKOTB for this. If I hadn't had the Joey poster on my wall as a youth, I'd be free of this guilty pleasure by now. Hopefully.
32.  Google - whether it is googling myself, my friends or an obscure person that I remember from undergrad, I use this site just as much as the rest of the computer literate world. I also enjoy googling random stuff, i.e. Strawberry Shortcake or Garbage Pail Kids.
33.  I Love the 80s, 90s - I find it quite sad that VH-1 has cornered the market on nostalgia. Yet, I find myself watching the A-Thons that are shown quite often on the channel that depicts my childhood. More than once I've found myself saying "I remember that" to the tv. Then I realize I'm alone in my apartment except for the ferrets. And they don't remember that, since they are less than 10 years old. And ferrets.
34.  Muppets  - I  Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie the Bear, Animal, Bert & Ernie...the list goes on and on. I'm not too fond of Elmo, but I'm getting over that slowly but surely. They are fun and educational, but mostly fun.
35.  Obscure Pop Culture References - "I was branded the Candy Man." "F*** me gently with a chainsaw. Do I look like Motherf***ing Theresa?" "Talk hard." I love pop culture, another phenomenon that VH-1 has the corner on. Darn you VH-1! Darn you!
36.  Jack White - the White Stripes rock. As do the Raconteurs. Yet, what I am most obsessed with about Jack White is how white he is. It's like Powder had a rock star child.
37.  Bubble baths - I'm a girl. Girls like bubbles and water. What else can I say?
38.  College Football - mainly the Huskers (of course), but I tend to enjoy most college football that's on tv. Especially when it's a team I don't like getting beaten. Such as OU or Colorado.
39.  Lane Bryant - I'm not ashamed to admit that 90% of my wardrobe comes from this store. I'm more ashamed at how much money I spend there. Billy likes the fact that I spend money there, though. So, it's all worth it.
40.  Lists - I am slightly OCD, so I like to have things on a piece of paper that I can cross off after being accomplished. Today's list begins with * Update blog (almost ready to cross this off) and ends with *Cross-stitch. Golly. I am predictable.
What I Did Last Night:
  • Ate a piece of birthday cake that my lovely assistant bought for me.
  • Talked to my sister and friends on the phone.
  • Watched Project Runway. Can you believe someone threw an egg at Michael? I am so happy that Vincent is gone. I hope Kayne is next.
  • Made a thin crust pizza around 9:30 PM. The cake was not enough apparently.
  • Cross-stitched like a banshee. Had to make up for the stitches I had to tear out on Tuesday due to my own stupidity.

101 Guilty Pleasures, part one

Yup. I am officially getting my blog ideas from E! now. Pathetic. I know.

Here are 20 of my 101 most guilty pleasures. In no particular order.
  1. E! Television - since it influenced this blog, I must admit that it is a bad, bad habit of mine. I actually admitted to a group of my friends this past weekend that I consider the 6:00 PM E! News to be my 'real news.' I have to know who Paris is dating, so that I can mock her. I need to know if Suri Holmes-Cruise has been sighted yet. I am way more interested in Hugh Hefner's sex life than my own. It's a sick habit. But it makes me smile. So it's well worth it.
  2. nip/tuck - basically it's Skinimax for those of us who don't want to pay for more than basic cable. It's kinda like watching a car wreck. You know you shouldn't be watching/enjoying it, but you cannot seem to turn away. (Last night's episode was great! The mother-daughter thing a little disturbing, but not as disturbing as JR wanting bigger balls.)
  3. Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia Ice Cream - I have a pint of it in my freezer as we speak. It's been a favorite of mine for years. Luckily, it hasn't been retired.
  4. Food Network - the reason that I know that Cherry Garcia hasn't been retired is due to an episode of Unwrapped, where they visited the Ben & Jerry's plant and showed the flavors that had been put to rest. They literally had a 'graveyard' for the fallen flavors. I love the Food Network. I watch it for hours. I do not cook. Go figure.
  5. Disney Channel/Nickelodeon Cartoons - I am officially 29 years of age now, and I still watch Fairly Oddparents, Brandy & Mr. Whiskers, Kim Possible and Danny Phantom on a regular basis. I should probably work on popping out a couple of kids in the next few years to make this less weird.
  6. Text messaging - I will text someone before calling them anymore. It seems less intrusive to me. Although I think it is probably more intrusive. But I am getting so good at knowing which number corresponds with each letter. It's an artform.
  7. Blogging - whether it is writing entries for this blog or reading another blog, I spend a lot of time reading or sharing information. It's a great stress reliever.
  8. Pink is the New Blog - Amtrak introduced me to this blog about a year ago. I love how Trent, the blogmaster, shares Hollywood gossip with the masses. Basically with sarcasm. I like sarcasm a lot.
  9. Infomercials - I would never buy anything that is peddled by a former television actress at dumb:30 in the morning, but I sure will watch and wonder if I could lose inches from my waist by thinking positively about my inner child. I really do wonder.
  10. Facebook/MySpace - easiest way to cyberstalk someone ever.
  11. Iced tea of the Day from Starbucks - yesterday's flavor: Ginger Peach. (Thanks for the coffee break, Jules.)
  12. Adam Sandler Movies - I mock them because I love them. I will watch Big Daddy every time it pops up on ABC Family. I will rewind the VHS/DVD everytime Bob Barker, a fellow SD native, fights with Happy. It's a sick obsession. But it makes me laugh so hard that my sides hurt. Except for Little Nicky. That movie just sucked.
  13. Bath & Body Works - if I have a coupon for free lotion with a purchase, I will force myself to find something in the store to buy in order to get the free lotion. Even if I don't need free lotion. I need this free lotion. In this new scent. That will be renamed something within the year. Hmmm...wonder if I have a coupon at home?
  14. Butterfinger Crisps - my kryptonite.
  15. Crunchy rolls from sushi restaurants - T and I can eat an entire crunchy roll within minutes. It's been known to happen more than once.
  16. Eavesdropping - whether it's listening to loud conversations at a restaurant or reading over someone's shoulder when they're typing on a computer, I have a bad habit of knowing what other people's lives consist of. I then blog about the overheard conversations. It makes for good reading. Latest overheard conversation on the bus: Girl found her boyfriend in bed with his roommate...who also happens to be her brother. She was discussing this loudly with someone on her cell phone. Not sure if it's true or not, but it made me listen more closely.
  17. Boulevard Beer - overdiscussed within this venue. I'm sorry.
  18. Instant Messaging - almost the same as text messaging, yet a little different...since I do use this as a work-related communication tool for the most part.
  19. Holiday Weekend A-Thons - how I describe the trend for every basic cable station to have back-to-back episodes of the same television show on during long weekends. I get drawn in every time that the USA Network has a Law & Order: SVU-a-thon. Every time. Other a-thons that grab my attention: Dark Angel-a-thon on SciFi. RENO 911-a-thon on Comedy Central. The list goes on and on.
  20. ABC Family Original Movies - I get suckered into watching every single one of these movies again and again due to the fact that they're on all of the time AND they generally star at least one former Buffy star.

How I spent my birthday:

  • Went for coffee with Jules, a lovely co-worker.
  • Lunch with co-workers. Ate too much, but enjoyed every minute of the time away from the office.
  • Received a lot of e-cards (including one involving squirrels), e-mails and messages from friends. All were and are greatly appreciated.
  • Cross-stitched while watching television.
  • Watched the nip/tuck.
  • Fell asleep early.

Very low-key day. I loved every minute of it.
