October & November Wrap-Up

Here's a brief synopsis of what has occurred in my life over the past few weeks:

Boise - Yup. I was in Boise, Idaho, during the Native American/American Indian/Columbus Day weekend. Why? To attend the wedding of Lynae, to visit MoSus and to avoid Baton Rouge during the LSU-Florida game chaos.

Book Festival - Attended the Louisiana Book Festival the weekend after the Boise trip. Enjoyed buying a few Louisiana inspired books, listening to the Symphony play music inspired by famous books that was featured in movies on the front steps of the Capital Building, and then a delcious Louisiana meal indoors (it was an oddly windy day). Also, spent some more money at B&N after all of this. Must keep Mom employed afterall.

Zombies - Are so the new vampire. I loved Zombieland. Just need to pick up some of Max Brooks'  books now to complement that new addiction.

Husker Football - Luckily a lot of the Huskers games have been televised in Baton Rouge this year. Unfortunately, I did watch the Iowa State game that caused me to use a lot more of my sailor-inspired vocabulary than I had thought necessary. Thankfully, the Blackshirts seem to be rallying around Bo and the season has been a lot more enjoyable since the Cyclones were in Lincoln.

Apartment Cleaning - I finally got around to donating a lot of stuff to a co-worker who has an annual rummage sale to support an orphanage in China. The really good part of this was that I donated an entire pickup bed full of stuff. The interesting part of this - I still don't have any extra room in my apartment. I think I might work on fixing that problem some more this weekend.

Ferret - Ivan seems to be toying with my heart. One day he is playful and his normal self. The next day he doesn't move at all unless forced to by me. The vet says he's not in pain, he's just slowing down. Let's just say that I take a deep breath every time I open the front door of the apartment. I'm just not sure what may be waiting for me on the other side.

SD - I will be back in SD beginning December 19 until January 2. Let me know if you want to do something.

Have a great Tuesday!
10月2日

Well...

it's been awhle, huh?

Since returning to the Bayou from SD in July, my schedule has been filled non-stop with meetings, training sessions and paperwork. I am actually avoiding an angry looking pile of grey folders glowering at me from the left side of my desk while I type this. Darn folders and their need to feel needed. Alas, I will get back to them soon. <Sigh>

So, what's been going on in my life as of late? In this case, I do believe a list is in order...sorry.

Work - has been great, but all encompassing. The first 6 weeks of the fall semester has concluded. (Unsure of how that happened.) Meetings have been held. Trainings have been completed. Paper has been killed. All-in-all it's been a great 3(ish) months. New colleagues are awesome. Being able to interact with people again without boundaries is so....just nice. I just wish I had more energy once 4:30 PM hits on Friday. I seem to fall asleep before Dollhouse's opening sequence airs. Oh, well...tis Fall Break and I'm still standing.

Birthday - I totally turned a year older (about a month ago) without the added adventure of either hurricane or a LSU football game. Yup. I was able to leave my apartment on my birthday and enjoy a lovely supper with a couple of colleagues, followed by two days of shopping. Finally, a Labor Day weekend I could enjoy.

Family - All is going well with the SD folks. My sister seems to be adjusting well to living in her own apartment in town (Sioux Falls, for those not from eastern SD). The folks have enjoyed multiple weekend excursions to Minnesota, and were planning on heading to the Hills this weekend - unfortunately, the weather decided to go all Arctic on them - so they're at home for a few days...I think they're cleaning out another farm building today. I should expect another B&N box of memories from my mom soon, I guess.

Friends - Even though it's been a hectic few months, I have been able to get out and about to do a few things - mainly enjoy Louisiana cooking and shopping, but it's been good. It's also been a busy few months for engagements and babies with friends, along with anniversaries and birthdays. I apologize now if I've totally paused on sending cards, texts, emails...I just now remembered that it's my former boss' bday today...must facebook message him now.

Travel - Yup. I will be leaving BR for a few days next week to visit the land of potatoes - Idaho. I will be joining MoSus and other SDSU folks to celebrate the wedding of L. It should be good fun for all.

Well, I should probably start paying attention to the pile of folders on my desk. It would be wonderful to leave for the weekend with a clean desk. <Fingers crossed on that one>

Hopefully, I'll be able to be more up-to-date with my entries now that I seem to have time to breathe.

I Know What I Did This Summer

It has been a pretty predictable summer for Me and the Jumpin' Husker Ferret thus far.

Worked. A lot as usual. Which is a good thing. Especially when I have had the opportunity to work with some great students and professional staff members.

Cross-Stitched. I officially think that this means I am getting really, really old.

DVDs. While cross-stitching, I have caught up on The Tudors, Entourage, 30 Rock, Big Love, True Blood...unfortunately, this list goes on for awhile. So, I'll stop while I'm ahead.

Flew. Made my annual trek back to the homeland (SD) at the begining of July. While there, I spent time with family (great aunt's funeral), classmates (Baltic Lounge), and friends (Falls of the Big Sioux, 3 times). I also spent a lot of time playing whist with the immediate family, shopping with my sister (Best Buy employees seemed to know us by name), and at the movies (The Hangover, Night at the Museum 2, and Bruno). I also spent a morning at the Great Plains Zoo with my folks. Overall, it was a great trip.

Stayed home. Shortly after returning from SD, I decided that it was time to catch my annual summer cold. Luckily, it didn't last as long as usual. Probably due to the fact that I stayed at home rather than came in for work during the worst days. Maybe I am learning something in my older age?

Procrastinated. Seriously, I need to clean my apartment. Buy new furniture. Exercise. You know, the usual list of needs and to dos.

Well, I think that should catch most of you up for the time being. Kinda scary how easy that was to do after almost 2 months, but I guess that's just how I roll.

I.am.lame.

I am okay with that. Wink

Nothing much to report

Although many people would argue that my life has been nothing but overly exciting and ambitious for a long, long time, it is kind of disheartening to look back and realize that it's been a really, really long time since I've had anything of interest to blog about.

Yup.

I have come to the realization that I'm just not that exciting. Probably never have been too exciting, but at least I used to have stuff to talk about. Stuff that I had done/completed. Stuff that I had planned.

I had ambitions. Goals. Deep thoughts.

And now?

I have a routine. A very simple to follow routine.

Monday - Friday
5:30 AM - Alarm goes off
Sometime between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM - Shower and get ready
Sometime between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM - Catch the bus
8:00 AM - Arrive at office, check voicemail/email, update spreadsheets
Sometime between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM - Get coffee at Starbucks
Until 11:45 AM - Meetings, projects, work
11:45 AM - Lunch
1:15 PM - Meetings, projects, work
4:20 PM - Prepare to leave work
Sometime between 4:30 PM and 5:00 PM - Catch bus home
5:05 PM - Arrive home
Remainder of night - Talk to sister on phone, ferret chores, supper, tv, Brain Age 1&2, read, cross-stitch, etc.

Saturday & Sunday
Pretty much the same as above, just replace work with housework. On Sundays, I get the paper and clip coupons.

Once and awhile there's a deviation from this schedule, but not often. <Sigh>

The real reason that I just <sigh>ed, honestly, is that I quite enjoy being a bit boring. I deal with so much drama at work that it's a relief to know that I have some kind of routine. Something that I can control. Yet, I do understand that it does make me a bit boring. Maybe too boring to blog anymore.

We shall see if I get more ambitious in the next few days or not.

In other Me news:
  • I'll be home (SD) from July 1-10. I fly back to BR really, really early on July 11.
  • Finished watching season 1 of True Blood. It was quite good. Honestly debating whether or not I need to get extended cable to see the new season that begins in 2 weeks.
  • Enjoyed being rather busy at work for the past 2 weeks. My student staff for the summer rocks, and it is nice having people in the building other than me.
  • Hung out with co-workers past & present last week when PV came back for a visit.
  • Have a plan for getting back to healthier living soon. This time I mean it. For reals.

Highs & Lows

I am really not sure where the time has gone since I last blogged, but I have a feeling it is due to the end of the 2009-10 academic year.

Here are a few pros and cons that have happened in my life over the past few weeks:

Pros
  • Finished reading the first 8 books in the Southern Vampire series. Maybe now I should pick up the first season of True Blood on DVD.
  • Successfully finished out the academic year with only 3 students not attending meetings from late April/early May.
  • Smiled as my sister found a new apartment and began realizing that she's too old to be living with our parents anymore.
  • Rediscovered my love for TV shows that will not be back for the fall 2009 television season: Samantha Who?, The Unusuals...yup, my tastes tend to run the opposite of the rest of the television-viewing public.
  • Found a great staff of student workers for the summer. They rock my socks off!
Cons
  • So tired from being so busy at work. Not that I mind being employed and/or being busy. Just not used to being productive and busy.
  • Majorly homesick. Good thing I'll be back in SD in about 6 weeks (July 1-10!).
  • Lack of sleep. I am in serious need of some sleep...hopefully, I'll get some tonight!
4月28日

<Insert Title Here>

  • Too many of my co-workers have been spending too much of their time in and out of hospitals and doctor's offices lately. That means that I have been spending too much time visiting or sending them cards too.
  • Ferrets should not chew on their paws. Ever.
  • In less than 24 hours I will have a different hair style. Sweet.
  • Late night commitments are over for the academic year. Not relly sure where the year went.
  • Not only have I become addicted to Agatha Christie books, I have become obsessed with James Bond. Well, mainly the new James Bond. Still, I kinda feel like I should be either in my 80s or in the 1920s. Not sure which would be better.
  • Seriously. I need to restock the house with food and other goods as my cupboards are almost dry.
  • I enjoy procrastinating. It is fun.
  • Off to brave the 50% chance of rain for another meeting. Later.

Earth Day Eve

In honor of the one day a year where Americans celebrate the earth, I have decided to put together a list of how I plan on celebrating Earth Day (tomorrow):

  • Saving electricity by not turning on my computer at work. (Although, this may not save my employment status.)
  • Recycle paper. All paper. I wonder if the housekeeping staff will notice full reams of paper in the recycling bin?
  • Only drinking sustainable liquids. Such as beer, wine and other liquids fermented from plant life.
  • Breaking for animals.
  • Wagging my finger at SUVs as they pass me at the bus stop. A double-wag for those SUVs that hold only one person or sorority looking females.
  • Watching movies starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
  • Omitting my morning shower routine. Yay for sponge baths!
  • Guilting someone into buying me lunch.
  • Breathing 10% less than I usually do.

Now for my real goals for Earth Day:

  • Taking the bus to and from work, walking to and from lunch location. (I usually do this, I know. But I will be doing this in honor of the planet.)
  • Recycle all paper waste for the day.
  • Bring a refillable cup to Starbucks for my morning caffeine fix.
  • Continue to go through boxes at home and put things in piles to donate or recycle.
  • Not watch TV except for The Unusuals (there's also an episode on tonight, I think Cupid has met the same fate as the original/much better version of the concept...go Pivs!).

Well, I should get back to editting.

Have a great day!

Highs & Lows

I think it's time for another round of the highs and low's of my life currently.

Highs
  • The weather. It's been gorgeous this week, most of last week...it's been one of those odd years where Baton Rouge has actually experienced Spring.
  • Books. We all know that I love them. But so far this year, I cannot seem to tear myself away from them. To be honest, I need to buy another book shelf for my house to store them all. I'm really considering getting rid of my table to make more room. (Since I rarely use the table for anything other than storing books, anyway.)
  • Students. While I have the tendency to believe that all students are hooligans, I must admit that they have been a point of happiness as of late. Meeting deadlines. Behaving. Providing good feedback. It's been a pleasant week or so of student interaction. (Totally jinxed myself on that one, I know.)
  • Television. I must admit that I have become a fan of some of the late season replacement shows. I really like The Unusuals and Krod Mandoon. Of course, they are quirky shows...which I tend to enjoy...on DVD...after they are quickly taken off the air...maybe these will be different?
Lows
  • Health. I've been feeling really blech lately. Not really sure why. But I would put money on the fact that I've been sleeping, eating and exercising much like someone with their own Discovery Health Channel special lately. Must work on being a healthier member of society.
  • Addiction. "Hi, my name is                    , and I am addicted to Mystery novels. Specifically those written by Agatha Christie."
  • Motivation. While I have been motivated by books, tv shows and students lately, I have had a hard time finding motivation to complete some projects that are still sitting on my desk (currently staring at me, actually). Hopefully, my first wind of the day hits soon. That would be most excellent.
  • Weather. Just in time for the weekend, Baton Rouge should be getting another round of rain/thunderstorms/spring weather. This really will not help my goal of being more active this weekend at all.

Well, I should try to conquer some of the piles on my desk. Have a great weekend!

Taxes Schmaxes

Happy Tax Day!

I am celebrating the 17th year of which I have had to file those lovely documents to the federal government. Luckily this year, I just about broke even.

In other non-required by the law news, I enjoyed a very pleasant Spring Break/Easter weekend. While I was really low-key (so out of character), I did enjoy catching up on apartment cleaning, reading and the top 100 one hit wonders from the 80s.

On campus late a lot lately due to the end of the academic year approaching...which is interesting as usual.

Well, I should get back to filing. And stuff.

Spring Break

Tis Spring Break here at LSU.

The weather is gorgeous. The workload is managable. And (fluff)friends on Facebook has an egg hunt going on. What more can a girl ask for?

I spent most of the weekend cleaning the Jumpin' Husker Apartment and bonding with the Jumpin' Husker Ferret. (Ivan was in an unusually playful mood. Which is a good thing. He's been a bit down in the mouth since the passing of Floyd.)

Other than quality apartment and ferret time, I've been catching up on movies that I've purchased lately (Zach and Miri...) and reading (out of Agatha Christie novels for the moment, most likely will rectify that today or tomorrow). I did head to the Strawberry Festival last Sunday. It was nice, just not the most entertaining festival de strawberries that I've experienced in the 6+ years of my Louisiana living experience. At least I didn't get sunburned this year.

I have also started walking daily again. It's a good thing. I'm just unsure of how I let myself get so out of shape again. Hopefully, this time I stick to a regimen that I can uphold.

Now that I've rambled for awhile, I should probably get back to work/egg hunting.

Weather

The past few weeks have been interesting, only due to the fact that there has been interesting weather.

A week ago, Baton Rouge had one of the most damaging thunderstorms in my history here. Lots of wind, rain and lightning. Basically, a lot of tree limbs that survived Gustav and Ike decided to come a tumbling down.

Then on Thursday night/Friday morning of last week, another interesting storm. With another storm on Friday night.

The weekend was gorgeous.

This week seems to be following the same pattern, only with the 'major' storm hitting BR during the lunch hour today. Was amusing watching the local news coverage of the storm while eating lunch, but I'm okay with this weather going back to 'normal' again soon. Didn't I move away from the midwest to avoid tornadoes?
Yup. I'm totally turning into an old person. As I just spent a good 10 minutes blogging about the weather. Honestly, that's about the only exciting thing to report on right now. Everything else in my life seems to be motoring at the same speed as usual. Work is good. Personal life is good. Ferret is good. So, I hope that I'm not jinxing myself by actually putting my 'good'ness out into the cosmos and the interwebs.
Well, I should get back to my regularly scheduled programming. Yay for monthly reports! Or something like that.

Highs & Lows

2009 has proven to be an interesting year for Me. While things are going okay for me personally and professionally, it seems to be kind of a downer year for most of my friends and family. Add to that the doom and gloom of the local newscasts and it's no wonder that I surround myself with the E!! Channel and Agatha Christie books.

As such, I have decided that today's blog post will list 5 highs and 5 lows of the year thus far. Be assured, these are meant to bring a smile to some people's faces. Nothing is too serious. Cuz life is just way too serious at the moment.

Highs
  1. Drinking a pitcher of mojitos on Tampa Bay.
  2. Dollhouse. I Red heart Joss Whedon.
  3. Agatha Christie books. Apparently I should have been reading them all along.
  4. Crawfish. I have become a big fan of this 'bug' or 'fish bait.' One can usually find me at Heads'n'Tails on Friday nights enjoying a 3-pound platter of these yummy little critters.
  5. Buying DVDs at Wal-Mart and having the clerk do a double-take at your choice of movies. Example: Buying Twilight, Madagascar 2 and Zach & Miri Make a Porno at the same time. Priceless.
Lows
  1. Cell phones that pick and choose when they will work. Grrrr....
  2. Misleading text/AIM messages.
  3. Piles and/or puddles of pollen. Tis the season to be sneezy....falalalala...
  4. On again/off again travel plans. Darn economy and stuff.
  5. Waking up with one's alarm. Just plain overrated.

Have a great Wednesday! I plan on being more on the ball with my blogging. For serious this time. Pinky swear.

3月13日

Yup. Another list.

As I have been nothing even close to interesting this week. Here's a quick rundown of my life currently:

  1. Spent 1.25 days away from work this week. Due to just not feeling well. Kind of an anti-other-people kinda week.
  2. I truly enjoy the fact that my office is located in a remote location. Keeps me away from the drama. Which is a good thing.
  3. I'm really craving crawfish today.
  4. I've read a lot this week. About a book per day. YAY! (TV has kinda sucked this week.)
  5. Plan on hanging out with Rosemary this weekend and acquiring a new chair. Which is *almost* exciting.

Well, off to finish a project, then begin another one. And stuff.

3月9日

I heart book sales

I truly enjoyed spending my money at the LSU Book Bazaar last Friday. It's an annual event where all proceeds go towards increasing the LSU Library collection. So, it both feeds my desire for all things books, along with assisting with the addition of more books to borrow. We're all winners!

This year's haul included the following:

The Mirror Crack'd by Agatha Christie
Halloween Party by Agatha Christie
Peril at End House by Agatha Christie
Towards Zero by Agatha Christie
A Caribbean Mystery by Agatha Christie
(see a pattern yet)
The Man in the Brown Suit by Agatha Christie
Sparkling Cyanide by Agatha Christie
Passenger to Frankfort by Agatha Christie
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
(seriously, I think I may need some help)
New Orleans Mourning by Julie Smith
Murder on the Menu by Miranda Bliss
The Namesake by Jumpa Lahiri
(finally, a non-mystery)
Moment of Truth by Lisa Scottoline
(spoke too soon)
The Giver by Lois Lowry
Louisiana Power & Light by John Dufresne
Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella
Shopaholic Ties the Knot by Sophie Kinsella
Candy Cane Murder by Joanne Fluke, Laura Levine & Leslie Meier

For some reason, I seem to be on a mystery/Agatha Christie kick this year.

Which is a nice change of pace...I guess.

5 Quick Things

I know, I know...I promised to not do this type of blogging anymore. But, the past few weeks have been hectic, and as such, the only way I'm going to be able to blog will be through quick lists. Hopefully, only for the time being.

  1. I really wish that I understood the true meaning of dreams. And what those dreams truly mean to others. Or why people feel the need to share odd dreams that they have about you. Dreams confuse me.
  2. Vacation planning has begun for the Girls Road Trip 2009. It looks like we'll be making Madison, WI, the homebase and seeing all that can be seen in the surrounding area. If you will be in that area around July 4, let me know. We may use your knowledge to our favor.
  3. Everyone I know is currently in the process of cleaning out files, apartments and houses. Must either be that time of year or something in the air. Yay for decluttering?
  4. I spend way too much time discussing the weather. I think it may be part of the aging process that our parents didn't tell us about. Example: I knew the projected highs and lows for this entire week, and shared that information with a student who couldn't care less. Yes. I have become one of 'those' kind of adults.
  5. Floyd passed away last week after a long battle with health-related issues. Floyd was one of the Jumpin' Husker Ferrets. Only Ivan remains.

Time Flies...

The past 2-plus weeks have gone extremely fast. So fast that I have completely ignored the fact that I had promised to do better at keeping people up-to-date on the details of my life via this blog.

So, I am going to do that now.

With the usage of bullet points. It's been that 'interesting' of a two week time period. (I admit it, I'm kinda boring at times.)

What I've Done Since My Apartment Was Attacked by a Bird
  • Enjoyed watching the Super Bowl with a group of work colleagues. Although I really didn't care who won the game, I usually enjoy the half-time show and the commericals. This year, I only enjoyed the half-time show. Who knew that Springsteen was that bendy? Am I the only one who thought that 85% of the commercials bit this year?
  • Spent one day in the office the following week. Basically running around with my head chopped off. Why is it more stressful to be out of the office for a week than it is to be in the office?
  • Left for Florida on Tuesday, February 3. All of my flights were on time. Although both were pretty bumpy due to turbulence. Thankfully, I made it to Clearwater Beach on time and with all of my belongings.
  • Annoyed family & friends in SD on February 4, as I enjoyed a leisurely breakfast on Tampa Bay. Although it was a bit chilly. Honestly, it was record cold weather in Florida the week I was there. You'll believe me once the price of orange juice begins to rise.
  • Spent the remainder of February 4-8 in conference mode. Lots of learning going on while meeting new people and renewing other friendships. Needless to say, I was wiped out at the end of each day. Thankfully, my roommate for the conference (my new colleague from across campus) felt the same way. I don't think we stayed up past 11PM during the week...at least on purpose.
  • Returned from Florida on February 9. Again, all of my flights were on time. And this time they weren't too bumpy.
  • Back into the swing of work on February 10. Almost caught up as of today, February 17.
  • Realized that I probably have some cell phone problems going on. As my cell phone keeps on shutting down without warning. Trust me, I'm working on fixing this. Soon. Ish.
  • Spent a lot of time on the phone with my parents and sister. Just 'normal' family issues that are getting more and more difficult to handle from this far away.
  • Basically, slept most of this past weekend. Just plain worn out from a busy couple of weeks. Hoping (fingers crossed) that I won't catch one of the many, many illnesses that are floating around campus.
  • Spending a lot of after hour time on campus this week due to trainings and classes. I am so excited that next week is a shorter week - yay for Mardi Gras!

Well, I think that about catches everyone up. In a very generic way. Well, it's time for me to order pizzas for tonight's training session. As they say, no rest for the wicked.

Birds

I am not a big fan of birds.

I mean I like them as a meal. I quite enjoy turkey dinners, fried chicken and really would like to try a tur-duck-en someday. Yet, no matter how much I enjoy eating birds, I really dislike them in general. Just not as much as I dislike squirrels and horses. Although, I do believe after this past week, birds have moved up to #3 in animals that I' okay not being around.

Why?

I have mf-ing bird in my apartment last week.

Yup. I woke up on Thursday morning to the sound of scratching in my apartment. Which isn't altogether unique. The ferrets seem to make a lot of noise in the morning, especially when I'm trying to get ready for work. The noise that I heard on Thursday was different than the ferrets cries for attention. First, it was coming from the a/c closet. And second, it was really loud.

Now, being the farm girl that I am supposed to be, I figured it was maybe a mouse or something small (although, I did have a moment of OMG, it could be a possum), so I slowly opened the door to the a/c closet. (Yep. I am that foolish.) Before I got it open more than 2 inches, I saw it. A bird. Not a small bird mind you, but an average sized bird. Flapping around in the a/c closet. Clawing his way through the object that used to be the air filter. Trying to get free. Quickly, I closed the a/c closet door. Checked myself for signs of the bird flu or lice. Then tried to figure out what I should do next.

I chose to shower. The whole time freaking out that there was a bird less than 6 feet away from me that wanted nothing more to be free from the a/c closet to either fly free or to eat my eyeballs. I'm really not sure which.

After getting ready for work, I decided to call the maintenance emergency line for my apartment complex. I left a long rambling message (shocking, I know) regarding the fact that there was a bird in the a/c closet that was quickly destroying property that belonged to the complex and not me. That I would be in my aparment until 7:30, and then I'd be at work. And that I would truly appreciate someone coming to remove the bird from the a/c closet as soon as possible.

So, there I sat. In my apartment. Watching the morning news shoes. Slightly turning up the volume on my TV every time I heard the wings beat against the a/c door. Fingernails clinging to the armrests of my chair every time I heard a bird-like noise. Jumping everytime I heard somewhere near my door. Hoping that it was Rocky, the handyman, coming to my rescue.

Finally, at 7:25 AM, I'd had enough. My nerves were shot. I really did not want to be home if and when the bird discovered how to open a doorknob. So, I went to work. The whole time aware of the birds staring at me from the trees. I am certain that they all knew that I had one of their own trapped in my apartment. And that I had lots of frozen chicken in my freezer. And that I didn't really like birds. And that I've seen The Birds mutliple times. So, I know that eventually the birds will revolt against the humans for no real reason.

Once I got to work (safely), I called my apartment complex once more. This time, I reached a real person. And that person told me that they would handle the bird situation as soon as possible. <Sigh of relief>

So, after a morning of sharing my fear of bird retaliation with my co-workers, I decided to reclaim my sanity by going to Raising Cane's with my co-workers for lunch. Never had chicken tasted so sweet.

(Upon returning to my apartment after work, the bird was gone. I only had a little bit of cleaning up to do. Yet, no one has figured out how the bird got into the a/c closet...as it was quite a bit larger than the smallest entrance and escape routes.)

My to-do list can wait

My to-do list has grown exponentially over the past few hours.

I'm really uncertain how I'm going to complete all of these tasks...when I lack the motivation to even physically write a to-do list. Yup. I typed it. In a fun font. Then printed it off on fun paper. It's bright pink. And staring at me from my desk.

I am well aware of the fact that if I do not complete all of these tasks by the end of this week, I will be forced to work over the weekend. Yet, even the threat of a work-filled weekend cannot seem to motivate me.

So, instead I have completed the following tasks, that were nowhere close to being on my to-do list:

  • Uploading pictures from Jan 1's visit to Old Chicago with my SDSU friends to facebook.
  • Cleaning out my Sent Mailbox on all of my e-mail accounts.
  • Catching up on reading every blog that I've ever heard of.
  • Creating a mock itinerary for my upcoming (in June/July) trip to Madison, WI.
  • Checking my e-mail every 2 minutes.
  • Typing a to-do list, instead of doing anything that may be on the to-do list.
  • Rearranging the supply closet.
  • Combining piles on my desk into a huge pile...that I then made into smaller, easier to manage piles.
  • Procrastinating.

I blame my lack of motivation today on the fact that there is not a huge crowd of students in the lobby cheering me on (I know that they were cheering on the President yesterday, but let me have this moment) as I accomplish feats unseen in my office for days. Such as, being completely caught up on filing and responding to messages, of both voice and e-mail varieties.

Oh well. Maybe after lunch I'll be more motivated.

Other accomplishments of note for the week thus far:

  • Completed 3 books in 2 days. I'm really liking the Hannah Swensen Murder Mystery series. (Which take place in small town MN...)
  • Made a couple of important decisions about the direction of my life (blog entry forthcoming).
  • Caught up with a couple of long-distance friends via facebook.

Too busy to blog

It has definitely been one of those weeks where even though I've been getting to work early (on time) and staying late (until 5:00 PM), I cannot seem to find the bottom of my To-Do list or the top of my desk. So, now that I have 27 minutes until the end of the work day, I have decided that it's a much wiser decision to blog than to file, create files, e-mail, return e-mails or do anything that could be productive.

Simply cuz I can.

Other than being inundated with the beginning of a typical spring semester, I have enjoyed getting caught up on watching DVDs that I purchased over the past few months, but had not yet watched. The movies that I enjoyed during Saturday's Movie-a-thon include:

Pineapple Express - "Must be stoned to thoroughly enjoy."

Sex and the City: The Movie - "Not as sappy as I'd predicted."

The Dark Knight - "Heath Ledger kinda freaks me out."

Well, I suppose I should get back to work...the guilt of not taking advantage of my free time would not be easily forgotten...wow, I'm old.

Procrastination Nation

I honestly have a lot to do today. I've made a list. I've checked it twice. And, yet, I cannot seem to find the motivation to work on anything that is on the list.

Example: I went shopping at Wal-Mart this morning to pick up supplies for a program that's not for another 3 weeks instead of doing paperwork for my upcoming professional development travels that need to be done today.  Explanation: I have a feeling that even though I need to go to this conference. I don't want to go to this conference. So, if I fudge up on the paperwork, I just won't have to go. I know. Extremely mature of me. But, I'm not really known for my maturity.

Example: Shredded individual pieces of paper that really did not need to be shredded. Honestly, there was not any sensitive information on the paper. I just felt like shredding. Explanation: When one stresses, one regresses? Destruction can be constructive? I didn't want to answer e-mails?

Example: Decided to blog instead of spending the 30 minutes before lunch on something more productive, such as filing, making copies, planning training. Explanation: I'm lazy. Just as simple as that.

Well, as I have now successfully procrastinated for 8 minutes or so, I probably should update my To-Do list for Monday.
